A First Foray Into Lipstick- Wet n Wild Mega Last Lipsticks and Swatches

I have to admit that I don't wear lipstick that often.  I tend to go for semi-sheer glosses or balms.  I think lipstick looks weird on me too.  I put on red lipstick for the first time and my boyfriend told me that I looked like a clown because I was so pale and my lips were so red.  I laughed because it was true.  And I usually like the way red lipstick looks with pale skin...

I want to be able to wear pigmented lipsticks, but I always think that when I wear one people are just staring at my lips thinking I look weird.  To try and train myself to wear lipsticks I've been buying cheaper drugstore ones.  I'm not sure WHY I'm trying to create another obsession.  The last thing I need is to spend more money, haha.

I have two Wet n Wild Mega Last lipsticks that I picked up during their last 50% off sale at Walgreens.  A bright, bright red that so far I have just worn around the house.  My dogs thought I looked glamorous though!  The other is a pinky rose-brown.

Both shades are matte creams that last forever on my lips.  They are a bit drying (I'm not used to lipsticks so I don't know how this compares to other matte lipsticks), but I thought they applied well.  Especially for me being a lipstick novice.

This is Wet n Wild Mega Last lipsticks in 911D Stoplight Red and 906D Wine Room.

Ugh, I hate how my skin does this.  It makes everything looks super dark.  I wish it looked more like it did in the tube... I think this is too dark for me.  Also, on me it looks like a color my grandma would wear.

I decided to make the lipstick prettier and layered Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac on top that I swatched in this post.  I like that it lightens the color and adds a bit of opalescent shimmer.

This is the same combination from above but I blotted my lips twice; once after applying the lipstick and once after applying the gloss.  I like the more pigmented one above, but I will probably wear it like this more often.

Available:
  • Wet n Wild Mega Last lipsticks retail for $2.99 and are found at most drugstores and anywhere Wet n Wild is sold.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day/night/whatever!

  1. I have to put gloss over quite a few of my lipsticks, because they sometimes do turn out darker than expected, AND I love gloss and HAVE to wear it! If you are newer to lipstick try to find a color similar to your lips then go from there with the brighter shades. Maybe you won't feel people are staring at you this way. Although I doubt anyone is staring!!! The pic with the gloss is great!! Very pretty!

  2. Thank you so much Danielle! I'm obsessed with gloss too; I have about a million glosses and like 5 lipsticks. I guess because I have never worn bright colors on my lips it still looks strange to me. Do you have any colors or brands you could recommend to me?

  3. You know right now I am LOVIN the Revlon Colorburst in Icy Nude. This is so pretty and is not classic "nude" where you look like a corpse. Also I like the Loreal Color Riche in Linda's Beige although I have seen it called Diana's Beige too. I guess they can't decide which celebrity to endorse it! This is almost always sold out and hard to find around here. But these are pretty close to lip color for me. My friends laugh and say I just choose the same color as my lips all the time!!

I know on Weighing Down on Beauty's site she has swatched both NYX and the Revlons and has some beautiful colors on there that are pretty neutral.

Have you tried the Burts bees tinted lip balms yet? These might be right up your alley!! Good luck!!!

  4. Thank you so much Danielle! I'm going to go check out both of your suggestions. And thank you for the blog recommendation. I realized that I'm a follower of hers but I forgot to bookmark the link.

I haven't tried the Burt's bees tinted lip balms yet but I always look at them when I'm at the drugstore. Are they pretty pigmented? I'm afraid of buying a light color and it not showing up or a dark color and it being too dark! I guess that's the beauty of buying at Walgreens; I can always exchange it!

Thank you again for your help!

  5. Danielle, I'm sure you must mean Aishwarya's Beige! lol It actually did start out as Aishwarya's Beige, but I don't think too many Americans know her so they switched it to Linda Evangelista. I love L'Oreal's Color Riche lipsticks, but beware of any with shimmer, since they aren't just shimmery but downright frosty and it's generally not a good look. Also a lot of women don't like Color Riche because it's got a perfumey floral fragrance. I think my mom must have had this brand though, since I just associate the scent with how lipstick is supposed to smell. lol
