FOTD- Perpetually Purple

Maybe this post should have been called Perpetually Blue instead. Because that seems to be me. I've been feeling all gross and "emo" (I hate that stupid word) lately so I haven't been posting as much as I would like to. Actually, I've been feeling that way for the past 7 months. I know things are supposed to get better with time, but I'm still waiting for that. So, Time, if you could take even a little edge off the pain I would be very grateful. Thanks.

So, my job is still going well. Which is surprising since I've pretty much hated every job I've ever had. I think I just like it because it gives me a break from thinking about how miserable I am, haha. You know things are bad when WORKING gives you a break. Anyway, here is some makeup I wore to work one day last week. Wow, this post is epically depressing. Which kinda makes me laugh. I'm so weird.

FOTD: Jaded

I've been so lazy lately with my makeup and it makes me sad! I guess when it comes to waking up early to do more intricate eye looks so sleeping later, sleep always wins. Which makes for me being a boring blogger. The red and black eye from the other day was probably the most interesting thing you will ever see me do. For example, I have worn Estee Lauder's Precious Jade creme shadow about 4 out of the last 5 times I have worn makeup. the other time I wore a Benefit creme shadow, so not much improvement there. I love creme shadows because I can just slap them on and it takes me roughly 15 seconds. Seconds count when I'm trying to sleep as late as possible!

So here is one of my looks I did with Precious Jade.

FOTD: Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette Pinks and Purples

Yay! It's Saturday! I don't plan on doing much of anything today. Read, play some video games, maybe watch a few episodes of Iron Chef America I have on DVR and THAT'S IT! I just need a day where I don't have to worry about anything and literally think about nothing all day. Haha, for some reason I am really excited by the prospect!

This is random, but did you know that whales are most closely related to hippos? I'm a Biology major, so this kind of stuff interests me. I'm taking a biological evolution course this semester that is really exciting for me so far. Yup, I'm a dork. A dork who loves pink and purple eyeshadow. Which is exactly what I wore to school yesterday!

Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette Swatches and Review

So, I figured out why I was so tired yesterday! After sleeping for 16 hours straight (seriously), I woke up sick. Yay for having the crappiest immune system ever. the worst thing about being sick is having to go about your regular responsibilities anyway, even when all you want to do is hide under the covers. Sometimes I wonder why I signed up for this "being an adult" crap anyway. Hmm, it's still not too late to move back home!

Anyway, in addition to being sick, I'm a bad girl. I spend entirely too much money. I hated having to hide things I bought from my boyfriend and being ashamed because I really shouldn't have bought them. I wasn't making us go into debt or anything, but I recognize it could have got that bad if I let myself continue to spiral out of control. I still have a few orders still in in bubble mailers I haven't even opened that I received a month ago or so. That is when you know you have a problem. I'm terrible at self-control, but it's time I sucked it up and learned. Now where did I leave my big girl panties?

I know I'm a bad girl, but I'm glad I was able to sneak in Urban Decay's 15th Anniversary palette before I decided to clean up my act. It's absolutely gorgeous. I know everyone has seen a million and a half pictures of this by now, but I don't care. I'm pretty sure you need it.

I had the most ridiculous time taking pictures of this palette. It is so shiny and reflective it made good pictures impossible. I think I need a better camera!

It also attracts fingerprints. They magically appear if you even THINK about touching it. The palette comes in a pretty purple velvet box that I couldn't bring myself to throw away, and I'm not usually so sentimental about packaging.

Here is the whole shebang disassembled. The actual eyeshadow part sits in a little square that is shiny purple on the outside and lined with more of the purple velvety stuff on the inside. The top silver part with the "jewelled" UD initials fits over this part. This a large mirror on the inside of the lid.

This isn't a small palette by any means, but still probably smaller than 15 single eyeshadows (and cheaper, too!)

This picture was taken in the sun. Unfortunately this was the only sun picture I could get before the sun decided to be an asshole and hide behind the clouds. Or was it that the clouds were assholes and hid the sun? I'm not sure, but someone was definitely an asshole.

I swatched these as how they are grouped in columns.

Urban Decay makes some of the best eyeshadows on the market and their palettes are usually "must buy"s for people. Urban Decay is also known for ruining perfectly good eyeshadows by sticking them full of craft glitter. Okay, I might be exaggerating the craft glitter bit, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean. Due to the fallout, it makes these color unusable for me, even if I used a sticky base. Luckily I haven't had an issues with  huge chunky glitter from this palette. Midnight Rodeo was the only one with the larger glitter, but I didn't have any problems when wearing it.

This palette is awesome because of it's huge range of colors. There are a good amount of neutrals, brights, and darker shades. I do wish they had taken out one of the neutrals and had a green shade though.

Like most matte blacks, Blackout was patchy, sheer, and a bit hard to work with. It wasn't the worst matte black I've used, however.

Look, look! I found dupes! Well, not perfect dupes, but pretty damn close. The two outer colors are from Wet n Wild's Blue Had Me At Hello palette (which I've reviewed here) and the inner two are from Urban Decay's 15 Anniversary palette. The WnW teal is a tad lighter and more green than Urban Decay's Deep End, and UD's Evidence has a slightly brighter blue sheen than the one from WnW, but I bet you would not be able to tell when worn on the eye. Also, the dark blue from Wet n wild was a bit more pigmented than Evidence.

Yay for dupes!

If you can still find this palette I highly recommend it. It is my favorite palette from Urban Decay either. I was impressed with swatches of the upcoming Book of Shadows palette and I'm glad I didn't pass up this one to get it!

My Favorite FOTD Yet- Green and Gold

I'm gonna show you the look I did yesterday and it's perhaps one of my favorite looks ever! It's cool because I can really feel myself getting better with eye makeup application.  I'm not good by any means but it has been nice to see actually progress in becoming reasonably adequate.

Hmm, I'm trying to think of anything new to tell you guys. Um, I made an A on my first exam for my biology class! Haha, that is my whole life- studying with a tiny bit of blog thrown in.  Oooh, I made some badass chicken parmesan the other night.  It was totally non-authentic and completely fattening but I don't care because it was delicious. But we had salad on the side so it made it okay, heh.  Isn't it easy to justify things to yourself?  I'm the master at it.

Oh, and one other thing I wanted to mention. October is breast cancer awareness month. As a proud owner of a pair of tits (like most of ya'll), breast cancer is an important issue to keep, ahem, abreast of. This last picture was taken after I had been wearing this for 8 hours. It held up really well, especially considering my super watery right eye. Yes, for some reason my right eye is more watery than my left. My left is only moderately watery, haha. No matter how much primer I wear the watery-ness eats away my eye makeup in the inner corners of my eyes.

FOTD: Nekkid Eyes

Every now and then a I get overcome by an odd feeling- the urge to wear neutral eyeshadow. Every thing else I wear is bland, boring, and dull. Colorful eyeshadow is my one "non-boring" aspect of my appearance. Seriously, I wear jeans, a t shirt, and Converse everyday. I either put my hair in a ponytail or wear it down and straighten it. I don't wear any jewelry or accessories ever.  See what I mean? Boring. I have 4 pairs of shoes- 2 Converse, 1 pair of tennis shoes, and 1 pair of flip flops (chanclas!) and three pair of jeans. I'm happy with this. It's simple and it works for me.

But put me in neutral eyeshadows and I feel naked.  After buying the Naked palette I'm starting to appreciate neutrals more, but I still feel more comfortable in hot pink eyeshadow than taupe.  So it was a little weird when I had the urge to do this look. I also wanted to practice my winged liner skills, but it's pretty obvious I need some more practice!

Urban Decay's Rollergirl Palette Swatches and Review

When I first saw swatches of Urban Decay’s Rollergirl palette I knew it had to mine.  I called my local Sephora once a week.  And they never knew what I was talking about.  “The Naked palette, you mean?” They would ask me.  “No”, I would tell them every time, “it’s new for summer.”  “Hmm, I haven’t even heard of it,” they would say EACH TIME.  I like the girls at my Sephora but it’s sad when the consumer knows more about their products than the employee!  I ended up giving up on calling and just decided to wait.

I finally got my dirty little hands on the palette a few weeks ago and it’s just as amazing as I had hoped.  I already have Darkhorse from the Naked palette, but it’s such a gorgeous color I don’t mind having another.  ALL of the colors are gorgeous actually.  Even Verve feels unique to me.  And of course I love the hot pink.

Like all Urban Decay’s shadows these are soft, smooth, and pigmented.  Urban Decay is known for making glitterbombs, but none of these were like that.  I didn’t experience any fallout when using these.  Searching for anything negative I guess it would be that the hot pink isn’t quite as pigmented or smooth as the other three, but only slightly.

Crush Lip Junkie lip gloss

I was surprised at how much I liked the lip gloss also.  It looks really juicy and I love the color.  It’s isn’t too sticky and feels really nice.

EOTD: Sunrise Over Mars (Orange and Coral)

Here is another quick post.  Sorry about this!  Once I get back home I'll be able to devote more time to blogging again.  Well, until I start my summer classes in a week and a half! Yikes! I forgot about my classes.  I had to drop out of the Spring semester for medical reasons so I really need to take classes this summer to help me get back on track.

ANYWAY, here is an EOTD I did a few weeks ago and barely am getting around to posting.  Oh, and a bonus L(ip)OTD too!

As you may know, I am obsessed (OBSESSED!) with Persephone Minerals' Mars Crystal Power eye shadow.  It feels like I wear it every other time I do my makeup.  This one is just a simple look, but I really like it.

This is Persephone Minerals' Mars Crystal Power on the lid and urban Decay Jones in the crease and a little below the lower lash line.  I used a felt tip eye liner from Physician's Formula on my upper lash line.  Oh, and a random shimmery shadow to highlight.

This is what my eye shadow looked like after 8 hours.  My mascara smudged a little, but the eye shadow itself looks exactly the same.  Gotta love a good eye shadow primer!

EOTD With Urban Decay's Naked Palette

I don't have lot of time to write a long post today because I'm visiting my parents!  My boyfriend packed our 3 dogs into his tiny car and have driven the 5 hours to my parent's house.  He has some vacation time from work so we're planning to stay for at least a week.  If you would have told me when I was a teenager that I would be this excited to see my parents, I would have rolled my eyes at you in disbelief.
But here I am with my family in the best city in world- Austin, Texas.  But I'm probably just biased because I grew up and 99% of the people/things I love are here. :)

This is an EOTD and L(ip)OTD I did a week or so ago.

The eye look was done using shadows from Urban Decay's Naked palette.

This is Virgin on the lid, Sidecar widely in the crease and Darkhorse in the outer crease.  I used Virgin again to highlight and used Sin below the lower lash line.  I used Urban Decay's Stray Dog eyeliner to line my upper lash line and waterline.

And here is what I wore on my lips that day:

I LOVE these two together.  I'm really starting to enjoy brighter lips now.  A few months ago I would never have worn this out of the house.  I will now- even if my boyfriend does tell me I look like a little girl who played with her mom's lipstick.  What does he know anyway?! :)

We might go play laser tag today.  I love laser tag!  Hopefully I'm recovered enough to do it.  Oh well, at the very least I can set up camp in a corner and shoot all the little kids who run by.

I Give In To Peer Pressure and Get Naked! Urban Decay Naked Palette Swatches, Review, and EOTD

When Urban Decay's Naked palette was released I smugly would declare to friends obsessing over it, "Hmm, it doesn't look THAT special to me."  And I managed to maintain that stance for months- through the sold-out status and subsequent high eBay marks-up and through several re-releases fraught with drama (fingerprints in shadows, etc.).  I was so proud of myself for not giving in to the hype and being strong.  "Why do I need neutrals? They all look the same, and I have plenty already," I would tell myself.  I now know this was a lie.

So I walked into my local Sephora a week ago or so, not knowing my life would be forever changed. Okay, maybe that is a little over-dramatic.  Just a little, though.  I was actually looking for the Rollergirl palette (which is STILL not in my local stores, ugh).  I asked the sales lady and of course she had no idea what I was talking about.  Pet Peeve- Why am I always more knowledgeable about products and upcoming releases than Sephora employees?!  Anyway, she said, "Do you mean the Naked palette?"  She pointed over to the Urban Decay section and there was a huge stack of brown and gold velvety goodness.  For the first time I felt the palette calling my name.  I don't think I even responded to the girl, I just walked over to the shelf in a trance.  By the time I had swatched the first 4 shadows I knew it had to be mine.

Luckily this just so happened to be when Sephora was having their 15% off sale and I had the coupon with me.  On the way to the register I saw the much coveted LE Stila Make Me Blush heart embossed blush thingy (review here).  I pried my grubby hand off my Naked palette just long enough to grab the blush and hurried to the register as if I thought someone was going to take my pretties from me.  So yeah, that was a good day.  I bought two really hyped items and they both majorly EXCEEDED my expectations. Woohoo!

Now I know everyone and their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, second-cousins, and best friend's sister-in-laws own this palette and have seen the swatches, but I'll show you again.  I have an EOTD at the end for ya too.

The included brush.

I would actually rathr have this brush than the eyeliner the palette originally came with because I have so many of Urban Decay's eyeliners.  This brush is really nice.  It feels solid and well made.

From left: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal

Naked and Buck are mattes with no glitter and are smooth with great pigmentation.  Creep is matte with silver glitter and is rather patchy and not very pigmented.  This is the worst shadow in the palette to me.

The first 6 shadows- Virgin, Sin, Naked,Sidecar, Buck, and Half Baked

The last 6 shadows- Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, and Gunmetal

I love the pigmentation of Urban Decay's shadows but hate how so many of them have large pieves of glitter that cause major fallout.  However, only one shade in this palette has the glitter and it is a color I probably wouldn't use that much anyway- Creep.

This is Virgin in the inner corner and to highlight the brow bone.  I used Sin on the inner half of the lid and Toasted on the outer half with a tiny bit of Half Baked in the outer corner. Hustle was used in the crease.  I lined my upper lashes with Darkhorse applied wet and below the bottom lashes with Smog applied wet.  For my water line I used Urban Decay's 24/7 Eye Pencil in Stray Dog.  I also used Naked to fill my eyebrows.

 

Pros:

• Great value for 12 high quality eyeshadows
• Great pigmentation on 11 of the 12 (Creep is a bit patchy)
• Easy to blend
• Versatile color will work on any skin tone
• The brush is great
• Plenty of colors unique to this palette

Cons:

• If you are an avid Urban Decay palette collector you probably own some of these shades
• The matte black (creep) was patchy and prone to glitter fall out
• Thous a great value, $48 may be a bit too steep for some
• Constantly seems to be going out of stock
