FOTD: Binging on Purple Poppies

Ugh, I'm terrible with naming things! One time I had a Siberian Dwarf Hamster named Leonard Nimoy, but that's only because my boyfriend named him. So, when all else fails for FOTD post names, I just do a play on the names of the products I used. Urban Decay eyeliner in Binge and Kiss My Sass eyeshadow in Purple Poppy makes "Binging on Purple Poppies"! I used several eyeshadows, so I could have easily went with "Blizzard on a Victorian Night", but I'm a sucker for alliteration. My angst-y teenage poetry was pure alliteration.  It was terrible (Here is a sample I remember- "Shadows slide and slither across a dust-laden shrine.."), but with alliteration you can fool people into thinking you know what you're doing. Isn't that how to get ahead in life? Not actually being competent, but just fooling people into believing you are? Politicians build their whole lives around it! But, I digress. I'm not sure how I went from poppies to politicians (alliteration!) but I sure can ramble can't I? Ramble on! (Anything for a Led Zep reference!)

FOTD: Unashamed Visionary

Ugh, I'm sick. I'm pretty sure it's tonsillitis due to the fact that my right tonsil is swollen 3 times its normal size, but I refuse to go to the doctor. I guesssssss I'll go if I don't get better. My boyfriend had to be hospitalized when we were in high school because his tonsillitis was so severe. If I remember right he passed it on to me, too. Now it's my time to return the favor, MWAHAHA! Ow, the maniacal laughter hurt my throat. :(

FOTD: I'm Officially Obsessed With Green Eyeshadow

Yes, I am officially obsessed with green eyeshadow. Specifically Estee Lauder's Precious Shade cream shadow. I think I've used it the past 9 times out of the 10 that I've worn makeup. Which makes for some boring and repetitive posts. But frankly my dears, I don't give a damn. ;) (Love that book. Yes, BOOK!)

Lip Layering Swatch Spam!

I've posted a lot of lip swatches lately, so I hope you guys don't mind. I'm not sure why, but lip swatches are my favorite to do. In reality I mostly wear just a quick slick of lip gloss, so doing swatching gives me chance to play with lip products I don't normally use. I have quite a few lipsticks that I know I will rarely or never wear so it's fun to pull them out and play from time to time.

FOTD: I'm Feeling Retro

I just got done writing an epically long essay for my biology exam so I'm feeling a little short on words at the moment! I have an exam every week that consists of 50 matching questions, 50 multiple choice, and an essay with a minimum of 1000 words. EVERY WEEK! That's what I get for taking summer classes. Oh well, it will be over soon. The fall semester will feel like a break after this!

  I didn't have any problems with the shadows fading on me at all and I put them on at 8 AM and didn't wash my face until after really late at night, after midnight. Pixie Epoxy works really well for me.

I really like Alpha Girl Beauty Powder from MAC. Sadly it was limited edition, but the compact is huge and I'll never use it up.

My Favorite FOTD Yet- Green and Gold

I'm gonna show you the look I did yesterday and it's perhaps one of my favorite looks ever! It's cool because I can really feel myself getting better with eye makeup application.  I'm not good by any means but it has been nice to see actually progress in becoming reasonably adequate.

Hmm, I'm trying to think of anything new to tell you guys. Um, I made an A on my first exam for my biology class! Haha, that is my whole life- studying with a tiny bit of blog thrown in.  Oooh, I made some badass chicken parmesan the other night.  It was totally non-authentic and completely fattening but I don't care because it was delicious. But we had salad on the side so it made it okay, heh.  Isn't it easy to justify things to yourself?  I'm the master at it.

Oh, and one other thing I wanted to mention. October is breast cancer awareness month. As a proud owner of a pair of tits (like most of ya'll), breast cancer is an important issue to keep, ahem, abreast of. This last picture was taken after I had been wearing this for 8 hours. It held up really well, especially considering my super watery right eye. Yes, for some reason my right eye is more watery than my left. My left is only moderately watery, haha. No matter how much primer I wear the watery-ness eats away my eye makeup in the inner corners of my eyes.

Kiss My Sass Cosmetics Eyeshadow and Lipgloss Swatches

 I have some eyeshadow and lipgloss swatches for you today from Kiss My Sass Cosmetics. I've reviewed them previously and they are one of my favorite indie companies.  If you haven't ordered from them before I highly recommend that you do so!

I actually want to amend the review I did of their Lip Glazes.  In my first order I ordered a few custom lip glazes and decided that the formula wasn't for me.  After playing with them for a few months I've changed my mind.  I really like them now.  My problem was that I was layering them on too thickly.  You just need the tiniest amount.  And they last forever, too!  The good news is that these are now packaged in a squeeze tube and are no longer in a jar, yay!

Sorry I didn't do a look with these eyeshadows, my eye decided to be a butthole (not literally a butthole, thank god) and get infected. I'm not sure what the culprit is, old contact lenses, bad mascara, either of the two creams I have been using on my eyes, but I hope it clears up soon because it looks nasty.

These pictures are taking in blindingly bright sun.  I always figured that the brighter the sun the more the glitter/shimmer would stand out but I'm learning that that doesn't seem to be so.  The bright midday sun seems to wash out all the sparkles. Or maybe there are just too many sparkles and my camera freaks out and can't capture them. I need to figure out new lighting conditions!

I love these lipglosses. They're a bit on the sheer side, but this is the type of thing I usually wear every day.  As much as I appreciate a bold lip, I just don't find myself wearing one all that often.  Plus, these would be really great for layering too.  If you prefer more pigmented lip products, Kiss My Sass just recently came out with a line of them called Lip Mixers.

A cool thing about them is that you can choose your own scent.  I got a different scent for each one and I really like them all.  You can also get unscented if you prefer.

The packaging has changed somewhat since I ordered these.  The glosses used to be available in several different sizes, but now they are only offered in a large size doe-foot tube and a sample clam-shell.  The samples are $2.50 and the regular sized container is $12.

Everyone has their own budgets, but $12 feels a little high to me personally.  As much as I like them, $12 feels a little over the price point I'm willing to pay for an indie lipgloss.  I feel bad complaining about pricing, because it's not my business and they can charge what they want- if I don't like it, I don't have to buy it. But I just felt I should mention it. And I really do like the glosses.

Purchases, Acquisitions, and Upcoming Reviews

Today's post is probably a bit boring, sorry!  I have another freakin exam today.  I'm a bit worried about this, but I *should* be okay (fingers crossed).  This may be my last test for my chemistry class, depending on how well I do.  If I have an A average overall in the class after this test I don't have to take the final exam.  Which I'm really hoping I don't have to take because I've already forgot everything we learned at the beginning!
I haven't been posting a lot of reviews lately just because of the time issue, but that hasn't stopped me from acquiring new pretties!  This is a lot of stuff, but don't think that I bought it all in the past week or anything.  All of this has been over the past 2 months or so and some was bought with various giftcards, discounts, or given to me. I like when people post about their recent purchases or hauls, so I hope you guys like it too.  Be prepared for seeing reviews/swatches of all this in the future!

I'm so excited about this one- I received my first items for review!  Squee!  This is especially cool to me because I don't go seeking brands out trying to get them to send me things; it just feels kinda weird to do that for me.  But Wet n Wild Tweeted that they had some items for review and they were looking for people to send them to.  They asked to send samples of your work.  I figured since they were asking it wouldn't hurt to send them an email.  I sent them an email talking a little bit about my blog and added links to my previous Wet n Wild reviews.  I didn't expect to hear back from them as my blog is still pretty small, but I heard back from them within a few hours saying that they loved my blog and asking for my address.

I have been really impressed with Wet n Wild's PR team.  They respond quickly, never made me feel pressured to give their products good reviews just because they sent them to me for free, and were very nice.  They just asked that when I did review to send them the links.  Even my boyfriend, Mr. Cynical, was impressed.  Of course it's in their best interest to be nice to everyone, but I just feel like they went above and beyond.  Look at the cute little note they sent in my package!

Of course just because I was sent these doesn't mean I won't be honest.  My integrity is VERY important to me personally and I don't like it when people mislead others just to get more free stuff for themselves.  I don't even want to work with a brand that exchanges products for glowing reviews.  I want the companies I support to have integrity also, and take both positive and negative feedback as an opportunity for growth and improvement.

Moving on!  Sorry for the novel!

Here are some discontinued Wet n Wild blushes that I bought on eBay. When I saw this post on Pink Sith I went to eBay to search for it.  The packaging looks different from hers, but the color looks the same.  You may be asking why I need 3 of the same color.  Well, I don't.  This was just the only auction that was up!  Plus it was only like $4 with free shipping for all 3 of these.  I would have gladly paid that for just one.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the other 2, haha.

My Pretty Zombie was on Heartsy (referral link) about 3 weeks ago and of course I had to buy a voucher.  I already have the pink mNg trio (which is incredible and I still need to post about) so I got three eyeshadows and their matching nail polishes. I don't see that she is selling the nail polish anymore, which is a shame because they look gorgeous.

I had a $25 gift certificate for Kiss My Sass Cosmetics for a few months and I finally spent it.  I'm really excited to try the glosses!

I bought a voucher for this comapany from Heartsy on a whim.  It wasn't very much and since I have the VIP thing my voucher was worth even more.  I haven't tried anything yet, but I'll let you guys know what I think.

Milani had a giveaway on Facebook a month ago or so where they were giving  a bunch of people free baked blushed in Terra Sole.  I was lucky enough to be one of them.  I thought this would be too dark for me, but it actually works well if I use a light hand.

I bought all this when Concrete Minerals was on Heartsy as well.  I still haven't tried the eyeshadows yet, but they look pretty in their jars.

Detrivore Cosmetics store is currently on hiatus as they finish moving, but I definitely recommend everyone order from them when they open back up.  This is my second order from them that I received about a month ago and am waiting to swatch until they open their store again.

When I bought the first Tarte 8th World Wonder kit from QVC several months ago I didn't realized that I had accidentally signed up for auto-delivery until I received this in the mail a week or so ago.  Unfortunately QVC doesn't sell these kits unless you signed up for auto-delivery with the first kit.  I guess i should have sent it back but I just couldn't make myself.  Don't tell my boyfriend!

I had a giftcard for QVC that I got from doing surveys so I bought this Tarte set.  This was before the other set came in the mail, so now I have this one and that one!  Luckily this one was paid for with the giftcard so I really only had to pay for the other.  Now that I think about it, let me make sure I didn't sign up for auto-delivery with this one too...

Kiss My Sass Cosmetics Swatches and Review

I have a very long "to try" list of indie makeup companies.  Kiss My Sass (formerly Suds n Sass) is one of the first I've bought from off that list.  I'm really glad I did!
Before I get to the pictures, I just wanted to mention that I LOVE the website.  There isn't one thing I would complain about or would change to make it work better. It's really professional looking and has all the same features of the websites of bigger, non-indie brands.  My favorite feature is that you can log in and see the status of your order and whether it has shipped or not and what the tracking number is if it has.  I wish all indie web stores had this!

Everything came in this cute bag and she also included a personal handwritten note, which was a nice touch.

I ordered 7 eyeshadow samples in jars and 2 custom Lip Glazes.  I received free samples of Pink Swear eyeshadow and Red Velvet Jelly Balm.

 I love the labels and the jars.  They look very professional.  Everything, even the samples, has a plastic safety band thingy (I totally forgot what they are called!).

The bottom labels are equally as impressive as the top. They say what the product is, how much product is in the jar. If it's a sample it says "SAMPLE" instead of the amount.  It then says the name of the shade followed by the flavor (if it is a lip product). What is really impressive is that insteado having a "may contain" each product has their own specific ingredient label. At the bottom the labels list what applications they are safe for (lip, all, etc) and whether they are vegan or not.  Around the edge is the company's website, email address, city, and zip code.  That's a lot of information for one label!

In addition to the safety seal, each jar has a sticker over the sifter.  Oh, and the sifters!  I thought it was pretty neat that even the sample shadows came with sifters.

The top row of swatches are dry over bare skin.  The bottom row are patted over Pixie Epoxy.  All except Pinky Swear that is.  Mattes don't look that great over PE.

 I love ALL of these colors, even the matte, which usually isn't my thing.  I can't wait to order some more.

 For the custom Lip Glazes you pick any eye shadow or blush from the shop, or a combination of them, and they will make them into a custom gloss.  You can choose the name, if you want extra sparkles and what color, a hilite/sheen and what color, and the flavor of your gloss.  There are 8 sparkle colors to choose from, 7 sheen colors, and 21 flavors.  The only thing I wish is that there was an option for unflavored.

I really like the colors I got, I just have a few issues.  First, the texture of the Lip Glazes is REALLY thick.  I like thick glosses, but not when it impedes the application and the way it wears.  These feel... gloopy... on my lips and I had a really hard time evening them out on my lips, especially Peach Petal.  Sugared Violets applied slightly better.  And then the gloss had a tendency to build up in the corners and inside of my lips.  It was weird, I have never had that happen with a gloss before.  I don't find these particularly sticky, just extremely thick.  Second, I wish these were in a lip gloss tube with a wand applicator instead of a jar.  Kiss My Sass does have glosses with a different formula in tubes and I'm guessing they wanted to keep these two products distinct from each other.  But I just think these would work a lot better in a tube.  For their credit, they do claim the Lip Glazes are thick, and I don't mind it, but it just feels like you can't even rub your lips together or it will all squish to the corners.  That was even applying the thinnest coat I could manage.

I LOVE the Jelly Balm formula.  It feels emollient and moisturizing, like a really good balm, but glossier.  I just really don't like lip products in jars, but this one goes a little better.  I wish it was in a traditional lip balm style packaging, but the formula may be too soft the keep it's shape in a tube.

Peach Petal Custom Lip Glaze

This is a mix of Kiss My Sass' Blossom and Zinnia matte eyeshadows with not extra sparkle or sheen.  The scent I chose is honey, and while a bit strong for me, it does smell exactly like honey.  The smell is a dupe for Urban Decay's new honey lip glosses.

You can sort of see where the gloss is gooping towards the inside of my upper lip.

Sugared Violets Custom Lip Glaze

This color is made with their Cotton Candy blush and violet sheen added.

Red Velvet Jelly Balm

So would I order from Kiss My Sass again?  Most definitely.  I love the eyeshadows and the Jelly Balm. I want to try her lip glosses in the tubes next.  I wish she offered custom colors with those because I really liked the colors I picked for the glazes.  I want to try the blushes also.

The eyeshadows are here and come in 55 shades. The sample baggies hold 1/8th tsp and are $1.50. Sample jars hold 1/4 tsp and are $2.50. 5 gram jars are $6 and 10 gram jars are $10.

The custom Lip Glazes are here and come in a 5 gram jar for $7 and a 10 gram jar for $10. (Regular Lip Glazes are $6 and $9).

Jelly Balms are here are a 5 grams jar is $6 and a 10 gram jar is $9.
