Some more Rainbow Honey swatches for you! I got sent these polishes for review (mini sizes) and immediately after swatching them I went and bought the full sizes. I love them that much!

These polishes are a little unusual as they are not available on Rainbow Honey's website. They are exclusively available on FAB (affiliate link for those who do not have an account with FAB) and only as a set and for a limited time. For a discounted price of $25 (normal price $30) you get three full size bottles including:

tenda is a bright kelly green lacquer with golden shimmer

costa del sol is a shimmery lacquer full of iridescent and holographic glitters ready to add some sun and sparkle to your manicure

schrammi is a deep coral lacquer with golden shimmer

You can purchase the set on FAB here.

For the swatches I used two coats for each of the base colors (Schrammi and Tenda) and one coat of Costa del Sol on my ring finger. The polishes applied great. The two creams with gold flecks were a teensy bit thick but not streaky and overall had a good formula. The glitter only needed one coat to get a nice amount of glitter on the nail and wasn't as thick as glitters in clear bases sometimes are.

Another late post! But luckily these are still available. I was sent these polishes from Rainbow Honey's The Robot Collection to review awhile ago and I'm just now getting to them. But no matter, just like anything Rainbow Honey does the concept is amazing and the product and attention to detail never fail to blow me away. To be honest, before trying the polishes I was unimpressed by the concept of black and white glitter over different colored chromes. But I can admit that I was wrong as the polishes look really great together. I am completely converted. So much so that I went and bought a full size bottle of the glitter, Yoshimi, because I was afraid of running out.

Rainbow Honey has the best packaging and design out of pretty much any company I've ever ordered from. Everything is consistent and well-thought out to the tiniest details.
This collection is special because along with the regular .5 fl oz (15 mL) bottles for $10 you can also get all 6 polishes as a set of 4 mL bottles for $25 (the set of full size bottles is $50).

The mini bottles DO NOT have mini brushes, thankfully. The brushes are full sized and easy to use.

The metallic chrome polishes might not be entirely unique, but they are very well done. You probably could get away with one thick coat, but I thought they looked better with two thin coats. The amount of metallic pigment (aluminum flakes) makes the texture a tad thick but I didn't find them too difficult to work with.
Okaaaay, I'm super late posting these lipsticks from MAC's 2013 Fashion Sets collection because just like all MAC limited edition products, the popular ones sell out FAST. Within a few hours fast or even sooner. But who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and your local counter will have some left. Or there is always eBay if you get desperate enough. And maybe one day MAC will repromote them!
I usually don't fall for the hype of MAC's limited edition collections just because I find the sales tactics a little distasteful. Sure it works for them because a lot of hype is built and people fight to throw their money at MAC and get the "privilege" of purchasing a really popular item. To me, I would rather not have to work to give a company my money. I think that if they want my business they should fight for MY business, haha. I don't feel like stalking a website for hours to buy something. Luckily with this collection I had a friend who picked up the lipsticks I wanted without any hassle on my part. So, so awesome of her.

The lipsticks themselves are okay to pretty good. The colors are GORGEOUS and I like the matte look, but they are extremely dry in texture and drag across the lip when applying. I have to wear a light layer of lip balm underneath for them to look their best. That being said they were definitely worth the price to me.
Embrace Me is my favorite one, unsurprisingly. I tend to gravitate to these types of colors lately. It also seems to be the most dupable. Milani Rose Hip is similar but not nearly as matte.
But I have a few blog posts I'm excited about coming up soon. For now I have a few nude lipsticks that I can actually wear. Being so pale I'm practically transparent this is quite a feat! I put this together for a Facebook group I'm in and I thought I might share.
These lipsticks are very affordable and pretty easy to find!
I guess that would be fine, but the two Sally Hansen polishes I used were limited edition and no longer available. I suppose a few may be floating around on eBay if you get desperate enough.

I LOVE layering. It's rare these days for me to wear just one polish by itself. Some times the layering experiments are huge fails and some times they turn out awesome. This was one of the awesome times. I layered Sally Hansen All Aglow, a purple foil-y polish, over NARS Midnight Express, a dark blue jelly, and slapped Sally Hansen Crystal Beading, a sheer multichrome that flashes from teal to blue to purple to pink, over the top. My pictures didn't manage to capture the best duochrome actions, but it was fabulous. Trust me.
In fact, it has probably increased. In the past year or two the amount of polishes available to consumers has exploded in conjunction with the popularity of nail polish itself. We now have available to us polishes from countries around the world along with the always innovative polishes from indie sellers. Big name brands have taken notice of this and stepped up their game offering a wide variety of creative colors and finishes. Now is definitely the time to be a nail addict. I'm definitely happy, but maybe my bank account isn't! These are all polishes I've bought in 2013. And there are probably more that I've stashed away in a Helmer that I've forgotten about (bad girl!).
Hard Candy polishes. From left- Crush On Pink, Crush On Tin, Fun 'N Festive, Pixie Pink, Cocoa Smore, and Gummy Green.

Sigh. I'm so, so impressed with Hard Candy and bringing out this completely revamped line of 45 polishes. I literally want every single one. I don't think that has ever happened to me before. There are maybe a few I could live without. It was almost torture limiting myself to these 6. The bottles are small at almost half the size of a standard polish, but the price is right at $4 a bottle. Just be prepared to go hunting at WalMart to find them. (Here is a list of all the polishes)
So I guess you'll continue to see sporadic posts from me until it comes back. And seeing as my last several posts have all been about nail polish, I seem to have lost my makeup mojo as well. Working at a cosmetics counter seems to have burnt me out on it a little. One thing that never wavers in my undying obsession with polish. This layering combo is from a few months ago when two of my Cult Nails polishes jumped out at me from their Helmer drawer. Looking at it in these pictures makes me want to do this again. Actually I just bought Scandalous from Cult Nails so I might try Captivated over that next.

I was one of 10 lucky people to receive a bottle of this polish. There were only 10 bottles of this polish created and it was randomly given to 10 different orders purchasing at least one polish from the Christmas Without Snow collection. I was only able to order two polishes and was ecstatic to open my package to reveal not two polishes, but three!
It's been a little while hasn't it? I didn't expect to take a two month hiatus from the blog. The holidays just hit me a little harder than I expected and you know how it goes- life gets in the way.

But, I received these two beautiful polishes from Rainbow Honey's Sweet Talk Collection and just had to share them with you (check the end of the post for a $5 off coupon code). I'm completely in love with all the polishes I've used from Rainbow Honey. The polishes are unique, and the branding is professional, creative, and beautiful.

There are three polishes in this collection-

Be Mine- "A lovely kiss of pink on your nails with a dusting of microshimmer and gold flecks."

Sweet Talk- "A decadently sweet collection of pastel glitters in a white jelly with hidden shimmer."

XOXO- "A ravishing blend of glitters and flakes in a clear base for easy use over any manicure."

I received the two I was looking forward to most, Sweet Talk and XOXO for review.
It's been awhile since I posted. I don't understand myself. I take the time to swatch things and take pictures, but just leave them sitting there on my camera memory card collecting (figurative) dust. So, if you missed me- I'm sorry! And if you didn't even notice I was gone, well, I didn't either. Time flies!

I've been collecting polish lately like a crazy person. I bought a second Helmer to store my polishes and apparently that gave me the go-ahead to go on a polish spending spree. I've been trying to pick up more indie polishes lately too. This polish is from one of my first indie orders.

The polish I'm showing you today is a blackened teal holo. It's a GORGEOUS color and one of the most unique holos I've ever seen. The holo effect isn't the most pronounced, but it still visibly, crashing your car because you're starting at your nails, there. Chirality Nail Polish makes some great holos at an even better price. Full size bottles are only $7. I plan on picking up some more, including their newer glitter shades, when I get a chance.

I believe I used two coats with a base and top coat.
It was the polish I was wearing in the picture holding the palette. Now this is a polish I've wanted for years. 3 years, 5 months, and 4 days to be exact. Which is the date I read about the Going Green collection from Nubar at Scrangie's blog. And was this polish ever worth the wait! It's green and it's holo; what more is there to say? My only regret is that I waited this long!

This polish doesn't have the most intense holo effect, but it is visible. Typically holos ship easily on me, but this wore really well. I'm in love with formula on the 3 Nubar polishes that I've worn.
I love this polish and i think it's one every polish fanatic needs in their collection. Even in the 3 and a half years this polish has been out, it still seems pretty unique. I'm not sure I've seen another holographic green polish exactly like this. I bought this polish on Amazon for $5.49 with free shipping. Not bad considering Nubar polishes retail for $8 on their website and you still have to pay shipping.Jessi M (Lacquered, Painted, Polished)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05296350642692065400noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3939140578725059331.post-6358378171890465482012-11-12T06:00:00.000-06:002012-11-12T06:00:16.399-06:00Tarina Tarantino Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and ReviewBeing the huge blush fanatic that I am, I craved Tarina Tarantino’s Dollskin Cheek Palette from the moment I saw it. And then the overwhelming positive reviews came pouring in. I was *this close* to ordering it from Sephora many times, but never ended up pulling the trigger. And then I found out that Tarina Tarantino was being phased out at Sephora and was selling for 40% off. There were many items I wanted (and ended up ordering!) but this blush palette was listed as sold out at the time. I was crushed. But undeterred I checked Sephora daily to see if it would come back in stock. And it did. I was ecstatic. Okay, I know how ridiculous it sounds to be ecstatic over blush, but if you’re a fellow makeup addict (and if you’re reading this I’m assuming you are), you’ll understand. (Of course, as of writing this post the blush palette is no longer listed. But keep checking, it might come back! I do see it listed on Amazon for $32, which I definitely think is worth it. Still cheaper than it originally was!)

The palette definitely lived up to the hype for me. I LOVE it.
The palette comes in a grey and pink box inside a holographic sleeve. It's pretty, but I definitely think it's a little over-packaged.
The palette is HUGE. I was expecting the blush pans to be about eyeshadow size, but they look amost like full size blushes to me. I compared the size to a Zoya nail polish bottle so you can see how big it really is.
There are two peachy-coral blushes and two bright bubblegum pink blushes. I wish the names of the blushes were listed somewhere on the palette. The blush colors are/were also sold individual so names would be helpful.

Feather (the top left) is a peach coral shimmer. Parasol (the top right) is a bright pink coral simmer. Carved Rose (the bottom left) is a bright pink matte. Candy Cameo (the bottom left) is almost the same color as Carved Rose, but has heavy silver shimmer. This is definitely the most shimmery of the blushes.

I almost wish they had left out Candy Cameo (I can just wear a highlighter over the matte pink if I want shimmer) and chose one of their other blushes, like Neapolitan Lane or Charm.
For each color the swatches are applied heavily on the left and blended out on the right.

The formula on all of them is pigmented, soft but not powdery, and easy to blend.
I recommend this palette to those who are blush obsessed and those who aren't. There is a variety of colors and finishes in this palette that will keep you from getting bored. I'm so glad I was finally able to get this!Jessi M (Lacquered, Painted, Polished)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05296350642692065400noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3939140578725059331.post-50912321069127363562012-10-26T06:00:00.000-05:002012-10-26T06:00:00.506-05:00Pink Glitter SammichI was just checking in my blog post draft folder and I have probably close to 30 potential blog posts. Yikes! I'm so behind. I paint my nails, buy new things, play with makeup, take pictures... and never feel like editing them and writing up blog posts. I don't know why! I guess because I feel like I don't have anything interesting to say and I'll just bore everyone. I still don't know how I used to manage to post EVERY day.

It's been so long since I wore these polishes that my nails had time to grow out from being nubbins and be really long to go back to being nubbins (their current state). It's been so long I almost didn't remember what polishes i used. But luckily I took a picture to remind me.

First I did a base of a nude polish, Zoya Kennedy. Then a layer of Revlon Sparkling, a pink tinged base with pink hex glitter, and small pink and holo glitter. The second glitter layer was Sally Girl Later (I've also seen it called Chunky Gold Glitter) which I wore in this post. The last glitter layer was another Revlon polish- Starry Pink (also known as Popular) which is silver hex and smaller glitter in a milky pink base. I followed all this with a coat or two of Seche Vite.
Working at a cosmetics counter has given me access to colors I never would have bought myself. Also, I can get away with wearing pretty much any colors, as long as they're executed well, and no one will blink an eye. Getting compliments on my bolder lip choices has increased my confidence in colors I never thought I would wear.

I bought these L'Oreal lipsticks a few months ago and instead of going for my usual tame colors, I picked up two of the brightest in the new Colour Riche Caresse line. I wasn't expecting much from them as I had bought a few of the Colour Riche balms (which came out around the same time as Revlon's lip butters) and I didn't like them. They were thin, sheer, and wore off quickly. These, and it may be near blasphemous to say, I like better than Revlon's lip butters. The formula is balmy and moisturizing, but not thick. They aren't the longest lasting lip colors, but I find that both colors I chose leave a flattering stain on the lips that lasts a good while. Both Blushing Sequin and Velvety Fuchsia are brighter, but have a juicy translucency to them. Neither is opaque. The both have a near invisible shimmer (Blushing Sequin's is golden, while Velvety Fuchsia's is blue) that just adds a bit of depth. I didn't detect a flavor, but they are scented with an unobtrusive fruity fragrance.
While once I would have considered Blushing Sequin too bright for me, I now see it as more subdued. I think this would be a good color for those just venturing into brighter lips. It is a very flattering color and is never "too much".
This is my favorite of the two. It's bright and bold, but not overpowering. Plus, I'm a sucker for bright fuchsias/hot pinks with blue flash or shimmer.

These retail for $9.99, which is a bit steep for drugstore lipsticks, but if you manage to catch a buy one, get one half off sale they're worth it.
Of course it's my own fault... if I could go to sleep at a decent hour I wouldn't be so exhausted. But my body seems to insist that days are 28 hours long instead of 24, so each night I want to stay up later and sleep later the next day. It doesn't hurt that I had like the worst Monday ever. I would say that two of the things people hate most is going to the dentist and going to a car dealership. Monday I did both. I woke up at the ass crack of early (aka 9 am, but early if you went to bed at 5 am) to go to the dentist. I got two fillings and two crowns. Cost me $1400 WITH insurance and I still need a crap ton of dental work to go. And apparently I got too much of the numbing crap so until 7pm that night it looked like I had a stroke because the left side of my face would not move. Which made for much merriment for my brother, whom I had to take to the car dealership to buy his first car. So not even a car for me. By this time I was nauseous from the numbing crap, having had 4 hours of sleep, and not having ate that day yet. And this whole time half my face was frozen like a victim of botched plastic surgery. We were at the dealership for 6 hours. I finally got home from the day from hell and fell asleep at the ridiculously early hour of 11:30 pm (I'm not being sarcastic. That is early for me).

So, this story has nothing to do with the makeup I'm going to show you, since I wore it last week, but I just wanted everyone to commiserate with me on my horrible day, haha.
Yes, I managed to buy a polish, open the package, wear it, take pictures, upload the pictures to my computer AND... completely forget I owned the polish. Do you think this means my polish obsession has gotten out of hand? If the answer is yes, please don't tell me because I'm already too far gone. The obsession has taken root and it's too late for me. SAVE YOURSELVES! Anyway, I can just use the excuse that I DO have a makeup blog and I NEED things so I can post about them right? Waaaay too much money has been spent on the justification that it's "For The Blog".

So, is this polish a must own? I must answer with an unequivocal, "Duh!" For one, it's holographic. Two, it has a duochrome-y purple flash. It's beautiful, it's amazing, it's the best thing to ever happen to you! Superlative, hyperbole, exclamation point! Okay, maybe it's won't change your life, but it definitely is one of those polishes that will make you crash your car because you are too busy admiring your fingers to pay attention to the road.

The formula is great and applied easily in two effortless coats.
Oh, I bought this from Llarowe but it looks like they are our of stock of this color for now. It is also available from Ninja Polish.
The three new polishes, part of the Yokai collection, are limited edition and a unique twist on a traditional Halloween collection. According to the infallible and omnipotent Wikipedia "Yokai are a class of supernatural monsters from Japanese folklore". Pretty cool idea for a collection right? These polishes had a lot to live up to in my mind, and they definitely did not disappoint. Take a look!

Rainbow Honey Kawako

Kawako- "The mischievous river child". This polish is a shimmery navy base with silver glass-like flecks and iridescent flakies. Because of the opacity of the base the flakes don't show up much, but do give a little flash every now and then. This polish is on the thicker side and it helps to let the first coat dry a little bit before applying the second. I've tried a lot of dark blue based polishes with silver glitter over the years and this is by far my favorite. It manages to to both fresh and unique.

Rainbow Honey Kitsune

Kitsune- "The magical white fox". This polish is a sandy tan base with gold shimmer and red, holographic, and gold glitter with smaller specks of glitter that look black in the picture above. Whew, this one was hard to describe. Like Kawako this polish runs on the thick side. However, it is one the coolest, most unique polishes I have.

Rainbow Honey Oni

Oni- "The malevolent, wild demon". This polish is a blackened base chock full of tiny irregularly-shaped gold and purple glitter flakes. The glitter does look predominantly gold, but for some reason my camera refused to pick up the purple. This one had the best formula of the three and was completely smooth- not thick or lumpy at all. It's is absolutely stunning and has a lot of depth and dimension even in the shade.

The collection will be released at rainbowhoney.com on October 13th at 12:01 AM EST. The polishes sell for $10 (a great price for a bottle of completely unique polish. You won't find any dupes for these!) and remember, the collection is limited edition. The biggest test when reviewing something that was sent to you is asking yourself, "Would I have bought this if it hadn't been sent to me?" And for me, and this collection, the answer is a resounding YES. I absolutely love the collection. I like the explosion of indie polish companies and their many unique products, but I do get tired of seeing endless collections of multicolored glitter in a clear base. These polishes are unique and opaque in 2 coats.

So what do you guys think? Do you have any polishes from Rainbow Honey? Do you plan on picking any of these up?

Disclosure: I was provided these polishes for consideration by Rainbow Honey. My opinions are my own and as always, my first priority is you lovely people who read my blog. I though it would be too neon and orange on me. One day I got up the courage to try it on and much to my surprise it was a fresh, natural coral on my cheeks. I immediately fell in love with it and bought it. I have a lot of pink in my skin so wearing pink or red blushes can make me look like I'm running a fever. The orange toned blushes combine with the pink to make a flattering coral shade.
The pan only contains .18 oz which is a bit on the small side, but still a little more product than NARS blushes (.16 oz).
And the shade.

The blush appears mostly matte, but there is a subtle sheen/sparkle to it that really is only visible in strong light. The texture leaves a little to be desired as it's a bit on the dry and stiff side, but I still find I can pick up plenty of pigment and it blends well.
In the shade.

The name Blush Subtil is not a misnomer as this seemingly bold tangerine shade is much more wearable than it appears in the pan. However it is buildable to be much more intense and I believe it would work for darker skin tones as well.

Here is a comparison of Sleek's Pan Tao blush (left) and Tangerine Tint. Tangerine Tint is softer and not nearly as orange. It has a peachier tone to it.

Here I am wearing the blush really softly.

And here I packed the blush on a bit more. I didn't wear it like this, but it was just to show you that it is buildable.

$30 is the highest amount I've paid for a blush, but for me it was
worth it. The color was unique enough and flattering enough on my skin
that I could justify the price (or at least that's what I tell myself).
Over the years I've noticed a definite shift in my spending. I've gone
from the "Pokemon" mindset of "I need to have ALL the makeup" to being more selective and really picking things I think I will use and are of good quality. Every now and again I will find myself going back to my old ways and "binging", but not often.
"Window shopping" online has really helped curb that. I've put together
and abandoned hundreds of carts in the past year. If i find myself going back to the same items over and over I know that it's something I really want. Anyway, I digressed
quite a bit. So what do you think of the blush? What is the most you
have spent on a blush? Was it worth it?

Oh, and for your viewing pleasure, my sleepy pug.
This post has been requested by a few people, so I thought I might as well oblige. Spoiler- These polishes are freakin' gorgeous and everyone needs to own them. You WILL want them when you see 'em. Also, I will not be held responsible for any bills not paid because you bought these instead. ;-D So now that I got that out of the way early, let's get right to it.

I bought the Hits Mari Moon Unique set from Llarowe when they had an awesome coupon code. But seriously, I would have bought them at full price. Hits is a sub-brand of Brazilian polish makers Speciallità (here is a catalog of all their polishes); a brand most of the world wouldn't have had access to before online retailers popped up and started selling it. I'm so grateful they did! (EDIT: Apparently other countries can order from the Speciallità website. I put together a cart, but shipping was going to be around $28. Ouch.) The polishes in the Unique set are also sold separately. The is another set named Modern that I plan to pick up soon.

I used about 3 coats for each polish to be opaque on it's own. The bottles are small (6 ml) so I would probably layer them to not use them as quickly. This is extremely pic heavy post (25 pictures!) so I'm sorry if it takes forever to load!
I've managed to get a lot of polishes swatched that I wanted to, but now lack the energy to prepare the posts, haha. Also I ate half a box of Bottle Caps candies and now my stomach hurts. I'm so bad.

So, I'm still kicking myself for not buying OPI's Mad As A Hatter when it first came out. I didn't realize how popular it would be so I figured I would have time to get it later. Absolutely Alice (from the same collection) is awesome too, but not on the same level as Mad As A Hatter. So this the only reason I was able to get Absolutely Alice. The eBay prices weren't TOO inflated, haha. But the polish still is really pretty! If you can find a bottle for a decent price I recommend picking it up.

I believe this was 3 coats.
Haha, how sad does that sound? I rarely drink and this bottle of champagne had been in my refrigerator since New Year's. I was just waiting for a special occasion. I got tired of waiting and decided Tuesday evening was special occasion enough. So I drank the bottle, got really happy, danced around to the Gangnam Style song, got sleepy, laid down and read a book, then got totally sober and awake and decided to write this post.

Since I decided to write this post at such an ungodly hour I'm just going to show bottle pics of some of my more recent nail polishes purchases. I'm sure there have been more than this... somewhere in the abyss that is my nail polish "storage" (aka random boxes stashed around my room) now that my Helmer is full.
I haven't written a new post in forever. I can't believe I used to post once every day. Now I'm just trying to figure out where all the time goes.

I guess maybe the wait for another post was worth it because today I have something for you I'm really excited about. I had seen these Korean polishes on a few blogs and became enamored with them. So when I found a listing on eBay for 3 of them for $17 shipped I pounced on it. About $6 each is not much more than the price of drugstore polishes here. I'm such a dork; it excites me so much that with the internet we have access to products from other countries we never would have had before. I know a lot of people are against globalization, but hey, if it gets me cool nail polishes I'm all for it! I've heard these polishes referred to as "yogurt", but seeing as I can't read Korean, I'm not really sure what the name of the collection is. As far as I know the individual polishes aren't named either, but assigned numbers. The collection is numbers 81-85 and I have 81, 82, and 84 to show you today.
I was super happy not only with my polishes, but the packaging and the extras. The box has a honeycomb pattern with bees and flowers and has a chat bubble saying, "Bee happy!" I thought it was freakin' adorable. They also sent along a packet of body wash, Hello Kitty band aids, and a body scrubber cloth. I thought it was hilarious that the body wash says "Fruits water. Made in nature." on the front.
I read somewhere that these bottles are only 10 ml (and that seems about right).

For all polishes I did 3 coats with no base or top coat. There is still a teeny bit of visible nail line after 3 coats but not enough to bother me. I want to layer these to not run out so quickly, but I like the squishy look from wearing them alone.

This one is supposed to be a dupe of Revlon's Whimsical (and as an extension Deborah Lippmann's Glitter in the Air). I used to own Whimsical and while I wanted to love it, I just couldn't. It took too many coats to get to the opacity I wanted and was just a thick muddled mess. This one, on the other hand, is everything I wished Whimsical to be. Much, much better.
