MAC Ablaze, Embrace Me, and Silly Lipsticks From The 2013 Fashion Sets Collection

MAC lipsticks from left- Ablaze, Embrace Me, and Silly
Okaaaay, I'm super late posting these lipsticks from MAC's 2013 Fashion Sets collection because just like all MAC limited edition products, the popular ones sell out FAST. Within a few hours fast or even sooner. But who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and your local counter will have some left. Or there is always eBay if you get desperate enough. And maybe one day MAC will repromote them!

I usually don't fall for the hype of MAC's limited edition collections just because I find the sales tactics a little distasteful. Sure it works for them because a lot of hype is built and people fight to throw their money at MAC and get the "privilege" of purchasing a really popular item. To me, I would rather not have to work to give a company my money. I think that if they want my business they should fight for MY business, haha. I don't feel like stalking a website for hours to buy something. Luckily with this collection I had a friend who picked up the lipsticks I wanted without any hassle on my part. So, so awesome of her.

The lipsticks themselves are okay to pretty good. The colors are GORGEOUS and I like the matte look, but they are extremely dry in texture and drag across the lip when applying. I have to wear a light layer of lip balm underneath for them to look their best. That being said they were definitely worth the price to me.

MAC lipsticks from left- Ablaze, Embrace Me, and Silly
These are a bit brighter in real life.

Swatches are in the sun.

MAC lipsticks from left- Ablaze, Embrace Me, and Silly
These are in the shade. The colors are incredibly pigmented. Nothing sheer or weak here!

MAC Ablaze matte lipstick
Ablaze was the one I was most unsure if I would like it or not. But I love it! It's a really gorgeous coral.

MAC Embrace Me matte lipstick
Embrace Me is my favorite one, unsurprisingly. I tend to gravitate to these types of colors lately. It also seems to be the most dupable. Milani Rose Hip is similar but not nearly as matte.

MAC Silly matte lipstick
Silly is probably my least favorite, but I still like it. I just don't think I pull off the paler Barbie pinks too well.

Good luck finding these if you don't already have them. Like most popular things MAC will probably release them again and there will be another huge frenzy!

FOTD: Unashamed Visionary

Ugh, I'm sick. I'm pretty sure it's tonsillitis due to the fact that my right tonsil is swollen 3 times its normal size, but I refuse to go to the doctor. I guesssssss I'll go if I don't get better. My boyfriend had to be hospitalized when we were in high school because his tonsillitis was so severe. If I remember right he passed it on to me, too. Now it's my time to return the favor, MWAHAHA! Ow, the maniacal laughter hurt my throat. :(

Silver Foiled Eyes and the Lips of an African Queen

So I'm feeling better today! I've decided that I can't let the way other people act influence how I feel about my life! Haha, it's one thing to decide it, another to remember and actually do it. But I do feel better. I got some of exam grades back and I did pretty badass, thank you very much! Haha. On one I made a 94 (made a few silly mistakes, boo!) and in the class really care about (Biological Evolution) I made a 104! I was a little in shock as I was expecting that grade. The professor did curve the grades 7 points because he said most people did terribly, so I should have made a 97. This is the first professor I've had curve grades since high school, but hey, I'll take a 104.
Hmm, what else? Oh! I'm terrible for not mentioning this before, but I'm participating in a blogging project to raise money and awareness for breast cancer called Project Pink Eye. Every Friday in October different blogs will showcase pink looks and many are hosting giveaways also. To enter the giveaways you just have to donate a minimum of $5 to support breast cancer research and comment on the blogs who have giveaways you want to enter. For a better explanation on the project and to check out the blogs involved, click here.

The other day I was feeling more bold than usual so I busted out the metallic eye shadow and went with a darker lip than normal. The "African Queen" part of the title refers to the name of the NYX lipgloss.

FOTD: I'm Officially Obsessed With Green Eyeshadow

Yes, I am officially obsessed with green eyeshadow. Specifically Estee Lauder's Precious Shade cream shadow. I think I've used it the past 9 times out of the 10 that I've worn makeup. Which makes for some boring and repetitive posts. But frankly my dears, I don't give a damn. ;) (Love that book. Yes, BOOK!)

FOTD: Tantalizing

I start school today and I'm always nervous the first day of new classes! I'm still lamenting my lack of a summer break, though! Oh well, I really needed to take the classes I did this summer. And I managed to get a pretty good schedule this semester. I only have classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from like 8:30 to 12:30. Oh, and I have a 3 hour lab on Wednesdays after my regular classes. Yay, that is still 4 days a week I can sleep late!

Here is a look I did whole week and a half ago when I was still in the midst of my summer classes. This post is called "Tantalizing" because the eyeshadows are from LORAC's TANtalEYES palette, but they was no way I was going to keep typing "TANtalEYES". I get the play on words, but typing it like that is annoying, haha.

Eyes:
  •  Two Faced Shadow Insurance
  • LORAC TANtalEYES palette
  • MAC Dark Diversion on upper lash line and water line
  • A mix of CoverGirl Lashblast mascara and Wet n Wild MegaLash Clinical Mascara on lashes

FOTD: Sacred Shroud

Yay! My summer classes are FINALLY done. I didn't attend school in the spring as I was recovering from surgery, so going from doing absolutely nothing to having school every day and being super busy was a bit of a shock. I'm proud of myself for getting through it because it was rough on me. And I made As in everything! YAY! I only attend classes Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the fall so it should feel like a break compared to how this was!

Sorry, for the derpy face in the following pic. Don't you hate it when you're going through pics and you look terrible in all of them? It sucks, but I'm not about to let a perfectly good opportunity to post go to waste. Plus I really liked the look, just not the face I put it on, haha.

Eyes:

  •  Two Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
  • Detrivore Cosmetics Shroud on lid
  • Detrivore Cosmetics Sacred in crease and below lower lash line
  • Essence White Hype to highlight
  • Physician's Formula Eye Definer Felt-Tip Eye Marker in Ultra Black on upper lash line
  • Urban Decay Corrupt eyeliner on waterline
  • A mix of CoverGirl Lashblast mascara and Wet n Wild MegaLash Clinical Mascara on lashes
  • Physician's Formula Canyon Classic quad matte eyeshadow in brows (darkest shade)
Face:

So now I'm off to the grocery store (Boo!). When I first moved out of my parents' house I LOVED going grocery shopping. Now I loathe it. I hate it almost as much as washing dishes. Almost.

FOTD: I'm Feeling Retro

I just got done writing an epically long essay for my biology exam so I'm feeling a little short on words at the moment! I have an exam every week that consists of 50 matching questions, 50 multiple choice, and an essay with a minimum of 1000 words. EVERY WEEK! That's what I get for taking summer classes. Oh well, it will be over soon. The fall semester will feel like a break after this!

Here is a look I wore last week when i actually woke up early enough to do my makeup and hair. This only happens about once a week and only because my dogs are assholes and don't let me sleep! Haha.

Eyes:
  •  Two Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
  • Wet n Wild I'm Feeling Retro trio purple on lid
  • Wet n Wild I'm Feeling Retro trio blue in crease and below lower lash line
  • Wet n Wild I'm Feeling Retro trio white to highlight
  • Urban Decay Zero eyeliner on upper lash line
  • Urban Decay Bourbon eyeliner on waterline
  • A mix of CoverGirl Lashblast mascara and Wet n Wild MegaLash Clinical Mascara on lashes
  • Physician's Formula Canyon Classic quad matte eyeshadow in brows (darkest shade)
Face:
  • Physician's Formula CircleRx concealer in Fair Light under eyes
  • Maybelline SuperStay concealer in Ivory also under eyes
  • Ulta Fabulous Face natural finish foundation in Classic Ivory
  • Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation in Translucent Light
Cheeks
  • MAC Beauty Powder in Alpha Girl
Lips
  • Pixi Succulent Lip Twin in Coral Camellia (tint only)
  • Kiss My Sass lipgloss in Caribbean Escape

I didn't have any problems with the shadows fading on me at all and I put them on at 8 AM and didn't wash my face until after really late at night, after midnight. Pixie Epoxy works really well for me.

I really like Alpha Girl Beauty Powder from MAC. Sadly it was limited edition, but the compact is huge and I'll never use it up.

Winning Giveaways Is Fun, Especially When You Win MAC!

Awhile ago I entered a giveaway The Makeup Divas blog for some items from MAC's Surf Baby collection.  Ever did I expect to win.  But I actually did!  This is the coolest thing I have ever won! I don't enter too many giveaways because I would feel bad entering ones on blogs I don't read or don't plan on reading and I also don't enter giveaways where I know I probably wouldn't use what they're offering or already own something similar.  It wouldn't be fair to the other people who really wanted it.

Upon looking at the swatches of the lipsticks I won online, I'm not sure that I will actually use them that often so I still haven't tried them.  I'm going to hold on to them and give them to someone I know who would actually use them.  But everything else I got I absolutely love.  Here are a few pictures and swatches.

Quite a generous giveaway, right? can you see why I was excited?

Sun Blonde and Surf USA
Surf the Ocean Crushed Metallic Pigments
These are super gorgeous.  I haven't worn them yet, but they're super pigmented and really do look like crushed metal powder.  And the way the gold forms little nuggets is so cool!  These have a tendency to clump together and don't spread without a little pressure so I'm not quite sure how they will work as eyeshadows.  I will just have to try and find out!

See? Super gorgeous.

FOTD: Blackened Gold Revolution

Okay, yeah, I know the title of this post doesn't make any sense.  I'm terrible at coming up with names so I decided to just go with a color description of my eyeshadow and a partial name of the lipgloss I was wearing. I guess it sounds better than, "FOTD: Hey, Look At This Look I Did Last Week You Guys!". Hm, now that I think of it, I kind of like that title better, haha.

So yeah, I did this look last week.  I don't go anywhere but to school and I randomly decided I felt like getting all dolled up. I usually put my hair in a bun, throw on some concealer, mascara and a wash of eyeshadow, a tshirt, jeans, and Converse and I'm out the door in 15 minutes.  I still wore jeans and Converse, just nicer hair, makeup and shirt than I usually do. This probably isn't going to happen all that often as I value my sleep more than I do looking pretty. I mean, I do have SOME standards, but any day I'm not scaring small children is one I consider a success.  But I probably would forgo even that for 30 minutes extra sleep.

Woah, almost got some cleavage in the picture!
Eyes:
  • MAC Hocus Pocus on lid and below lower lash line
  • L'Oreal HIP pigment in Visonary (gold) over Hocua Pocus (because Hocus Pocus wasn't shimmery and gold enough for my tastes)
  • MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in Desires & Devices on my upper lash line
  • MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in Pure Show below my lower lash line
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara
Face:
  • Physician's Formula CircleRx concealer in Fair Light
  • Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation in Translucent Light
Cheeks
  • Stila Make Me Blush cheek color
Lips
  • MAC Evolution Revolution lipglass

Here are a few more pictures just because I couldn't decide which one to choose.

EOTD: Versailles' Old Gold

My final exam in my lab is tomorrow.  Man, these summer classes go by quick.  I hope I actually learned something, haha.  The good thing is I can make as low as an 60 on the final and still  make an A in my lab!  It's looking good for making an A in my lecture, too.  Yay me!  I start my second summer class class and lab for biology the day after my current class ends. I'm really looking forward to a break, but won't get one until December, when the fall semester is over. Ugh.
I wore this look to school last week.

This is MAC's Old Gold pigment on the lid and below the lower lash line, Antoinette's Revolution Cosmetics' Versailles eyeshadow in the crease, and MAC's Superslick liquid eyeliner in Desires & Devices on my upper lash line.

I don't actually own the full size of MAC's Old Gold pigment.  I asked my SA for a sample because I was thinking about buying the full size but she filled the sample jar so full I'm not sure I will even use the whole thing.  As much as I like Old gold, I love Antoinette's Revolution Cosmetics' Versailles eyeshadow even better.  It is so gorgeous and a definite must own.

Here is what I wore on my lips with this look:

A Few Items From MAC's Bloggers' Obsessions Collection

I'm sure you and the rest of the world already know about MAC's Bloggers' Obsessions collection.  MAC had a contest with 60 bloggers or so for them to submit ideas for a lipglass or an eyeshadow.  Out of all the entries they picked 9 bloggers.  These bloggers got to go to MAC's laboratories and create their dream shade.
I'm not big on MAC's eyeshadows, before this I only owned two mineralized ones from the Venemous Villains collection.  The colors seem mostly one-note and not pigmented enough for my tastes.  I don't really care for lipglasses either. I only have 3 and rarely wear them (Cremesheens are my favorite glosses).  But I was excited to see what some of my favorite bloggers would create.  After seeing swatches I decided on Jealousy Wakes, Parisian Skies, and Hocus Pocus eyeshadows and Evolution Revolution lipglass.  Jealousy Wakes and Evolution Revolution are by two of my favorite bloggers- Christine from Temptalia and Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog.

I'll show you pictures and give my thoughts after each one.

From left- Jealousy Wakes, Hocus Pocus, and Parisian Skies
From left- Parisian Skies, Hocus Pocus, and Jealousy Wakes
I know some people are grossed out my eyeshadows swatched on fingers, and I agree that it isn't the most appealing, but I thought this picture showed off the colors and their finishes pretty well.

From left- Jealousy Wakes, Hocus Pocus, and Parisian Skies
I first swatched these dry over bare skin and the second swatch for each color is over a sticky base.  There is a huge difference between the two, right?  Used dry these are pretty sheer (which is precisely why I don't like MAC shadows), but they look amazing over a sticky base.  Straight out of the pan and dry, Jealousy Wakes is the most pigmented and actually provides pretty good coverage without being put over a base.  While Hocus Pocus and Parisian Skies were really smooth while Jealousy Wakes is a tad gritty.  Not anything major, I think it's just  because it is the most sparkly of the three.

I really like the colors, though.  They seem pretty unique and I'm glad I bought them.  Sadly, at the time of me writing this, both Jealousy Wakes and Hocus Pocus are sold out. :(

MAC Evolution Revolution lipglass
This one is gorgeous!  I love it so much.  Yes it is pretty sheer (it's meant to be), but it's so beautiful layered and even by itself with an intense eye look.

Here are my bare lips just for reference.

  • You can buy the Bloggers' Obsessions eyeshadows and lipglasses from MAC's website for $14.50 each. (At the time of this writing, Jealousy Wakes and Hocus Pocus are sold out).
