A Few Items From MAC's Bloggers' Obsessions Collection

I'm sure you and the rest of the world already know about MAC's Bloggers' Obsessions collection.  MAC had a contest with 60 bloggers or so for them to submit ideas for a lipglass or an eyeshadow.  Out of all the entries they picked 9 bloggers.  These bloggers got to go to MAC's laboratories and create their dream shade.
I'm not big on MAC's eyeshadows, before this I only owned two mineralized ones from the Venemous Villains collection.  The colors seem mostly one-note and not pigmented enough for my tastes.  I don't really care for lipglasses either. I only have 3 and rarely wear them (Cremesheens are my favorite glosses).  But I was excited to see what some of my favorite bloggers would create.  After seeing swatches I decided on Jealousy Wakes, Parisian Skies, and Hocus Pocus eyeshadows and Evolution Revolution lipglass.  Jealousy Wakes and Evolution Revolution are by two of my favorite bloggers- Christine from Temptalia and Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog.

I'll show you pictures and give my thoughts after each one.

I know some people are grossed out my eyeshadows swatched on fingers, and I agree that it isn't the most appealing, but I thought this picture showed off the colors and their finishes pretty well.

I first swatched these dry over bare skin and the second swatch for each color is over a sticky base.  There is a huge difference between the two, right?  Used dry these are pretty sheer (which is precisely why I don't like MAC shadows), but they look amazing over a sticky base.  Straight out of the pan and dry, Jealousy Wakes is the most pigmented and actually provides pretty good coverage without being put over a base.  While Hocus Pocus and Parisian Skies were really smooth while Jealousy Wakes is a tad gritty.  Not anything major, I think it's just  because it is the most sparkly of the three.

I really like the colors, though.  They seem pretty unique and I'm glad I bought them.  Sadly, at the time of me writing this, both Jealousy Wakes and Hocus Pocus are sold out. :(

MAC Evolution Revolution lipglass
This one is gorgeous!  I love it so much.  Yes it is pretty sheer (it's meant to be), but it's so beautiful layered and even by itself with an intense eye look.

Here are my bare lips just for reference.

  2. Jealousy Wakes and Hocus Pocus are so so pretty and they look a lot softer and more pigmented than usual Mac shadows. I really love the purple lipgloss as well. It's a shame that we won't get this collection over here.

  3. I'm not into the collection, especially since it's online only.

  4. I didn't get to buy Jealousy Wakes, and I am so sad about it! But I did get Evolution Revolution, Parisian Skies, Sparkly Neely, Neely Sparkle, and Sonoran Rain.

  5. I wish I'd been able to get Jealousy Wakes, but it was sold out by the time I got home to buy it. I picked up Hocus Pocus, Evolution Revolution and All My Purple Life. Love them!

  6. @Savannah- I love Evolution Revolution so much more than I thought I would. I don't even like lipglasses but I love this one.

@Lillian- Yeah, I agree with you about more pigmented than normal. Which is why I usually prefer indie shadows. And I think it's silly they aren't making this collection available everywhere- it's one their more inspired collections recently.

@Vijaya- I don't mind ordering online, it just sucks that it's only available in the US and Canada.

@Chris- They should have known Jealousy Wakes would sell out! I hate how they make so much less than they know the demand will be. I hope you like what you did get!

@Phyrra- Boo, that stinks! Now i wish I had ordered another one to send to you! I was looking forward to the looks you would create with it. I'm also curious how All My Purple Life looks on you!

  7. I missed out on JW but did get Hocus Pocus and LOVE it. Can I ask what base you used?

  8. @Mariella I used Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy but I think you might be able to achieve the same thing using the shadows wet. I like using a sticky base because it's easier.

  10. I need to buy some eye shadow for my wife but she didn't give me any specifications about what she wants. She told me to surprise her because she wants to see how I would do on my own. Can anyone suggest any good brands of eye shadow that I could get for her?
