MAC Cremesheen Glass Partial to Pink and Loud & Lovely swatches (and a comparison)

I like MAC, but I'm not one of those people who go crazy and have to buy every single item from every one of their limited edition collections.  I have to admit that it's easy to get swept up in the hype and excitement of limited edition items and its easy to end up spending more than you should.  MAC has a lot of hype surrounding and while I don't think it is completely warranted, the company does offer really great products (and some not so great ones).  Pretty much the same as any company, actually.

One of my favorite MAC products is their Cremesheen Glasses.  While I do like Lipglasses, they are often too glittery on me and settle into my lip lines.  Actually my first "high end" makeup purchase was Nymphette Lipglass when I was a freshman in high school.  I still have it too!

I like the Cremesheens because they aren't sticky like Lipglasses, they feel soft and moisturizing on my lips, and they have more options that aren't glitter bombs.  What I don't like is the price for the amount of product you get.  Its $18.50 for 0.09 oz. while Lipglasses are $14.50 for 0.17 oz.  That is four bucks less for almost twice as much gloss.  These are also permanent and available, so no hunting on eBay to cure a lemming!

Partial to Pink is a peachy-pink nude with a subtle shimmer.
Loud & Lovely is cool toned bright magenta pink creme.

The following is a picture of my bare lips to give you something to compare to.

My other favorite lipglosses are Revlon's Super Lustrous glosses.  The texture reminds me of the Cremesheens, but a bit thicker.  They retail for $6.99 for 0.2 oz which is over twice the amount of gloss for almost a third of the price.  Also, Revlon frequently goes on sale and you can also use coupons.

The point of this is that I have a Super Lustrous gloss that I thought may be a dupe for Loud & Lovely.  Its called Pink Pop.

MAC Loud & Lovely and Revlon Pink Pop

Left: MAC Loud & Lovely    Right: Revlon Pink Pop
As you can see they clearly aren't dupes.  The Revlon is a warmer, more bubblegum pink and is also a bit more opaque.  They are pretty close though and it may satisfy the craving for someone who doesn't want to shell out $18.50 for the MAC gloss.

Pros:
  • Flattering shades
  • Moisturizing
  • Non-sticky formula
  • NOT limited edition!
Cons:
  • A big price for not that much gloss
  • Some shades may be easily dupe-able
  • May no be as long lasting as more sticky glosses

Zoya Ki over Color Club Revvolution

Zoya Ki is a beautiful polish on its own, but its a little sheer.  I am obsessed with layering polishes so I decided to layer a duochrome (Zoya Ki) over a holographic (Color Club Revvolution).  As you will see, the holo doesn't show up really under Ki but it gives it some depth and sparkle that wouldn't be there layered over a black creme.

Zoya Ki is a purple and green duochrome shimmer and Color Club Revvolution is a soft black, dark charcoal holographic.  Both polishes are a must own in my opinion!

I'll show the polish under several different lighting conditions so you can see the elusive beauty of Ki.  This is 1 coat of Ki over 2 coats of Revvolution.

This one shows off the purple and green duochrome really well.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac

I am a lip gloss fiend.  I always have been and lip gloss and lip balm are my oldest beauty obsessions.  I remember eating a whole tube of chocolate mint Avon lip balm when I was 5 because it tasted so good.  I was only allowed to apply lip balm under my mother's supervision for awhile after that one.

One of my favorite lip glosses ever are Revlon's Super Lustrous  lip glosses.  They are tied with MAC's Cremesheens for my all time favorite.  I like that they have a lot of options without shimmer and the thick, smooth, creamy texture really works for me.

However, this is my first foray into other  lip glosses from Revlon.  Specifically today I have Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac

I don't normally go for shimmery lipglosses, but compared to others in this line, this one was the most subtle and I really like the way it looks in the tube.

It is a warm pink with cool pinky, purple opalescent shimmer.

I'm not sure if it is scented or not.  It has just a vague, unmistakable lip gloss scent.  I wasn't able to detect much of a flavor either.  Revlon claims the gloss is "weightless" and it is a pretty light weight gloss.  It is not very thick or sticky at all, but I  feel like the shimmer gives it a bit extra lasting power.

This picture is a little washed out and keep in mind that my skin makes the color look a more cool toned that it really is.  The pinky-purple shimmer adds a bit of coolness also, though.

Crystal Lilac with flash

Crystal Lilac under artificial light (no flash)

The color lightens my natural lip color a bit, but the way it looks on your lips depends on your own lip color as it is not super opaque.  I actually prefer it with a medium opacity as I think the shimmer would settle into lip lines if it were more opaque.

Available:
  • I purchased mine on sale at Walgreens for $3.99 but they retail for around $6.00 at drugstores. Be on the lookout for Revlon coupons and sales.

Zoya Loredana and Savita

I really like matte polishes.  Specifically matte polishes with shimmer.  I usually only wear them when I'm running short on time and God forbid people see me with the same mani twice!  After a day I will usually slap a top coat on 'em and that is where they really shine.

I have two matte polishes from Zoya, Loredana and Savita.  I've really been lemming Posh, a matte shimmery red, but it doesn't look like they sell it anymore. Noooo!

On to the swatches! (Please excuse the amateur quality of my swatching.  It's harder than it seems!)

Zoya Loredana

This is 3 coats.  The first coat is disappointingly sheer; I didn't think it would be able to build to opacity.  but, 3 coats is perfect.  It isn't as matte as the next polish I'll show you, Savita, and takes longer to dry, but it is very beautiful.  You can even see the multicolored shimmer.

Zoya Loredana with top coat (Seche Vite)

Wow, look how shimmery and beautiful it is with top coat!  For some reason the teal sparkle was showing the most, but on the nail other colors are visible also.

Zoya Savita

Ugh, I didn't so such a good job with this one.  Plus I dinged my middle finger.  Sorry!  Ignore my misshapen index finger and the random bits of cotton ball fuzz!  This color dries really fast and has a much more flat finish that Loredana.  This is 3 coats.  If you are careful you may be able to get away with 2.

Zoya Savita with top coat (Seche Vite)

Top coat make the pink shimmer really apparent.  I definitely recommend this polish!

My Zoya Polishes

Zoya is an awesome company.  They have fabulous nail polish in a wide variety of  colors and finishes. While they aren't available in stores (online is the best place to buy them), it is really worth it to pick some up if you are a nail polish lover.  They also have great customer service and really care about their customers as they are always having promotions.  The bulk of my current collection came when they were having a BOGO free promotion.  The others came when they had a promotion for reaching 20,000 fans on Facebook.  You got 3 polishes free and just had to pay for shipping and handling.

So I went from having zero Zoya polishes to having 14 seemingly overnight. Being entrenched in the nail blogging community I forget that buying more than 1 or 2 polishes once a year or so is highly unusual for most people. Heck, P.P.O.D. (Pre-Polish-Obsession Days) 14 polishes used to be more than I owned total, not just of one brand.  Also, before I knew better I threw out all the colors I had that were not nudes or pinks in a fit of color hating rage.  I'm so mad I did this... old school Sinfuls, Streetwears, and Sally Hansen polishes all gone.  The only colors I have left from my childhood are some ugly frosty mauves my grandma gave me. Ugh!  Oh well, I guess eBay has to be good for something.

I really wish I could have swatched all of these, but I'm just starting out blogging and I'm TERRIBLE at swatching.  I was able to swatch two before I got frustrated and gave up.  I'll post those later.  for now, here ar some bottle pics.

First Row: Tiffany, Lola, Adina, Savita, Valerie, Casey

Back Row: Shawn, Ivanka, Edyta, Crystal, Kotori, Kelly, Ki, Loredana

Zoya Tiffany and Lola
  • Tiffany is a peachy-pink metallic shimmer with gold flecks.  The gold flecks show up much more prominently in real life.
  • Lola is a neon hot pink with a blue shimmer flash.  Unfortunately the blue flash isn't showing up in this picture, but it is very visible in real life.

Zoya Adina, Savita, Valerie, and Casey

  • Adina is an almost frosty looking purple with a strong green duochrome.
  • Savita is matte blue leaning purple with tons of pink shimmer.  This is gorgeous with a top coat.
  • Valerie is a reddish purple metallic base with golden copper shimmer flecks.  Once again the gold flecks are not showing up in the picture.
  • Casey is a vampy, blackened purpley red.

Zoya Ivanka, Shawn, and Edyta

  • Ivanka is blueish emerald green base with grassy green shimmer flecks.
  • Shawn is dirtied yellow green creme.
  • Edyta is a dark forrest green base with lots of golden and green shimmer flecks.

Zoya Crystal and Kotori

  • Crystal is a light blue shimmer with golden metallic flecks.
  • Kotori is a sapphire blue in a blackened blue base.

Zoya Kelly, Ki, and Loredana

  • Kelly is stormy, purple tinted gray creme.
  • Ki looks like an oil slick in a bottle.  It is a dark base with a purple and green duochrome.
  • Loredana is a matte charcoal with multicolored shimmer.  The colored shimmer is not very apparent without a topcoat.

    China Glaze Rated Holographic

I've been *meaning* to start a blog for awhile now.  but I know it's a HUGE undertaking that takes lots of time and effort.  I've always known I wanted to do it for the right reasons, but I wasn't sure if I had the dedication.  Well, I recently acquired tons of free time, so the perfect time to start a blog was born.

These swatches are probably about a year and a half old.  I told you that I've been thinking about this for a long time.

With the disappointing release of Tronica, China Glaze fans are really starting to appreciate how awesome the Kaleidoscope and OMG! collections really were.

Rated Holographic is from the Kaleidoscope collection.  While these polishes aren't nearly as prized as the ones from OMG!, I really enjoy them.  Versus the linear holo particles from OMG! these have a more scattered holo effect.  Rated holographic is a mauve peachy-pink.  It is a nice juxtaposition of a work-appropriate color with the bling-tastic nature of a holographic.

    This is 3 coats.

Revlon Cream Blushes Review and Swatches

I was going to wait to do another post, but I felt bad not having any swatch pictures!

Lately my obsession has been cream blushes.  When I first started getting more into makeup I never thought about blush.  I went to Sephora, bought one neutral pinky rose powder blush and thought I was set for life.  I would often tell my boyfriend with an air of superiority, "How can anyone need more than one blush?"  Oh, how wrong I was.  Oh so wrong.

My blush collection is still very small.  I'm trying to restrain myself and buy what I will really LOVE, not just because I don't happen to have that color.  I've already been that route with nail polish.  2 years and a search for every color and finish possible I have a collection of over 400 polishes (I can't bring myself to really count).  I know I will never have the opportunity to wear every one. much less use them up (yeah, I lied to myself about this for a long time.).  So yes, restraint is my motto.

Anyway, I love cream blushes because they blend into the skin, most of the time giving a more natural look while a powder can appear to just sit on top of the skin.  My skin is pretty "normal" (sometimes running a tad dry on my cheeks and maybe a tad oily in my t-zone, but not really), so cream blushes work really well on me.

I've been wanting to try Revlon's cream blushes for the longest time, but have never been able to justify the price ($9.99 at Walgreens), especially when drugstore makeup goes on sale so often.  So this sale gave me the perfect opportunity.

I REALLY like that they don't waste space by including a brush or a sponge.  Even in high end makeup these are usually useless compared to brushes you buy separately.  I didn't realize this when I was taking the pictures ( or I would have taken one of it) but the bottom right has a button that causes a mirror to pop out the side.  It's pretty cool.  The mirror is there if you need it and doesn't get in the way if you don't.  The packaging is minimalist, but sturdy.  It would definitely survive a drop.

I could tell by feeling the blush that they have a silicone base.  I listed the ingredients toward the bottom of the post so you can see for yourself.  Personally, silicones don't bother my skin at all.  If anything, they make my skin look better.  But I know many people have issues with 'cones so if you do these aren't for you as dimethicone is listed as the first ingredient!

    Swaaaaatch Tiiiiiiime!

Revlon Cream blush in 09 Rosy Glow
Rosy Glow swatched on left and blended out on right
Rosy Glow is a nude, peachy-pink that looks warm in the packaging but pulls cool on me (my skin tone is cool, which probably explains THAT).  It has a slight bit of micro-shimmer that is not very visible.  I usually hate shimmery blushes, but this is subtle enough that I think it actually enhances the blush.  It is almost more of a sheen than a shimmer.  This looks incredible natural on me.  It is the color my cheeks naturally flush.  I really like this; it is perfect for a subtle look, but I'm not sure it would show up well on darker skin tones. (For the record, if you can't tell, I am very pale.  I've never been "fitted" for a MAC foundation, but from my own experimenting even the lightest seems a little dark.)

Revlon Cream Blush in 18 Berry Flirtatious

Berry Flirtatious swatched on left and blended out on right

As you can see, Berry Flirtatious pulls cool on my skin as well.  Like Rosy Glow, this color is also awesome.  It's is a medium berryish pink (I am horrible at color descriptions.  I usually use "ish" a lot!)  It is very buildable, but on my fair skin I only need a little bit for a bright, healthy flush.  While this is definitely brighter and more pigmented, the color is still natural and pretty.  Also, this does not have any shimmer that I was able to detect.

    Here are the ingredients:
Dimethicone, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, Isotridecyl Isononanoate, Talc, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyethylene, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Boron Nitride, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica, Nylon-12, Alumina, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf (Green Tea) Extract, Gingko Biloba Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Distearalkonium Hectorite, Barium Sulfate, Sorbitan Trioleate, Methyldihydrojasmonate, Laureth-12, Acrylates Copolymer, Triethyl Citrate, Dimethicone Cyclomethicone Copolymer, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Ethylene/Methacrylate Copolymer, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Sorbic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, BHT. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Carmine (CI 75470).

    Pros
    • Beautiful, wearable colors
    • Berry Flirtatious's pigmentation is buildable
    • Sturdy packaging
    • Inexpensive if found on sale
    • Very blendable

    Cons
    • $10 may be a little steep for drugstore makeup (not on sale)
    • Rosy Glow may only work on lighter skin tones
    • Only 2 colors were available at my Walgreens (the Revlon website only lists the colors I got, but says that they are available in 6 colors... hmmm)
    • Chock full of silicones (this may be a Pro for some... like me)

    Available

Overall, I would definitely recommend these.  Especially if you don't mind the silicones.  I only wore these on my face (One on each cheek!  Don't worry, I didn't go anywhere!) for 3 hours but they looked exactly the same as when I put them on.  I think they are probably even worth it at full price.  I don't know what my problem is, I paid $25 for a Smashbox dual cream blush, and thought it was a bargain for two colors.  I guess my cap for drugstore is different from higher end brands!  Silly me.
