Cheap Drugstore Nude Lipsticks For The Melanin Deficient

I know, I know, I've been MIA for awhile. But I have a few blog posts I'm excited about coming up soon. For now I have a few nude lipsticks that I can actually wear. Being so pale I'm practically transparent this is quite a feat! I put this together for a Facebook group I'm in and I thought I might share.

These lipsticks are very affordable and pretty easy to find!

Rimmel Airy Fairy- $5 to $6
Essence Creamy Nude- $2.99
NYX Pumpkin Pie- $4

Sorry my lips are so damn dry! The change in the weather this time of year does it every time!

Lip Layering Swatch Spam!

I've posted a lot of lip swatches lately, so I hope you guys don't mind. I'm not sure why, but lip swatches are my favorite to do. In reality I mostly wear just a quick slick of lip gloss, so doing swatching gives me chance to play with lip products I don't normally use. I have quite a few lipsticks that I know I will rarely or never wear so it's fun to pull them out and play from time to time.

So, I hope you enjoy my lip layering spam; it was fun to do. Even though my lips hurt now, haha.

This is Essence Creamy Nude lipstick under Revlon Colorburst lip gloss in Crystal Lilac.

This is Wet n Wild 516C lipstick under Buxom Tara lip gloss.

This is Rimmel En Vogue lipstick under Essence Bubble Babe lip gloss.

This is elf Studio Matte Coral lipstick under Kiss My Sass Caribbean Escape lip gloss.

This is NYX Rosebud lipstick under Kiss My Sass Summer Lovin' lip gloss.

This is Wet n Wild 509A lipstick under NYX African Queen lip gloss.

So that is it for today- just some swatch spam!

Thank you for reading and have a great day/night/whatever!

Lipstick Swatch Spam with Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipsticks

Ahh! I'm so excited! I took my first exam in my Chemistry class and I was super nervous about.  I'm one of those lucky people who rarely has to study because for some reason when it comes to school I have a good memory.  Outside of school stuff my memory is terrible.  Like I can't remember people's names for crap.  but I actually had to study for this exam.  It turns out I only missed one question and make a 96, woohoo!  Being smart is pretty much the only thing I have going for me because I'm extremely bland and boring, haha.  Sorry, I just had to share that because I was proud of myself for doing well!

Okay, this post barely qualifies as swatch spam because I only have 4 lipsticks to swatch, but this is all I have.  I'm not particularly fond of Rimmel lipsticks, but I buy them when they are on sale and I have coupons.  First of all, I hate the scent.  To me it smells like a spray disinfectant used in nursing homes or day cares.  It has an overwhelming sickly sweet powdery fruit smell with an undercurrent of chemical goodness.  Yech, not for me. I asked my boyfriend and he said they didn't smell gross, but I don't trust his sense of smell.  He can never smell anything. Luckily on my two older lipsticks the smell has faded a bit and once on my lips the smell fades pretty quickly.

As for the formula, it is pretty good.  I don't think I would pay full price for these, but I never pay full price for drugstore makeup anyway, unless it is something I REALLY have to have, like a limited edition item or something.  I used to not like the formula of these just because I didn't like lipstick, but now I like it.  It's creamy, pigmented and non-streaky or drying.

The lipsticks with the silver band around the middle are the newer style tubes.  They're a little bit taller and I guess fancier. I dunno, I don't care much about packaging.  As long as it's functional I'm happy.

These lipsticks are only like 5 or 6 bucks and I bought mine a few on mine while Rimmel was having a 40% off sale at a drugstore (Walgreens I think) and I had some coupons.  So they were worth the few dollars I paid.

Recent Hauls/Purchases/Acquisitions

Sorry I don't have time for a proper post today, the class I'm taking this summer is threatening to kick my butt if I don't give it nearly every second of my free time.  And I don't take kindly to threats of violence, so I better stay on top of it. :)

I just wanted to share a few things I bought/acquired recently so you know what to expect in upcoming reviews!

I like high end makeup, but I'm a drugstore queen at heart.  I didn't buy all you see above at once, but with sales and coupons I only paid about a total of $30 for it.  You can barely buy an eyeshadow palette for 30 bucks at Sephora.  I always try to save my money to buy a few higher end things, but my natural tendency is to spend as little money as possible while acquiring the most items.  What can I say, I'm cheap.

The above are few recent indie makeup purchases.  I've really been into pink eyeshadow lately, so I just HAD to buy the pink mNg trio from My Pretty Zombie when I had the chance.  Something else I had to take advantage of (again!) was Detrivore's sale of 10 eyeshadows for $20.  Unfortunately Detrivore is closed for the next month and a half so I feel bad posting swatches when you can't even order right now!  I may just wait to post them until her shop opens again.

And last, but not least, I won Zoya's Summertime and Sunshine collection from Mary from Body and Soul when she was hosting a giveaway.  Isn't that awesome?! I was even planning on buying a few from the Sunshine collection before I found out I won.  I even love the cremes, but I have so many nail polishes that I'm pretty sure I have dupes for almost every color.  My stash is already out of control as it is, so I was thinking of saving them for a giveaway of my own.  Do you think it would be rude/weird to give away something that I won?  I just would rather them go to someone who would use them more than I would.

So there ya go.  Is there anything you've bought/reviewed recently that you're especially excited about? Feel free to share links if you want.

Thank you for reading and have a great day/night/whatever!

Rimmel Glam'Eyes Trio Eyeshadow in Lagoon- The London Look is Not My Cup of Tea

It's not often that I'm going to post about something I really don't like.  First, because I do my research before I buy and swatch in store (when available) I rarely buy anything I absolutely hate.  And second because if I don't like something, it bores me to tears and I won't feel like wasting time talking about it!

Rimmel Glam'Eyes Trio Eyeshadow in Lagoon is one of my few "dislike intensely" purchases.  I'm so spoiled with Wet n Wild's shadows that I took it for granted that all drugstore shadows were as great.  They aren't.  I bought this one when Walgreens was having a 50% off sale on all Rimmel cosmetics. Rimmel has always been hit or miss for me, and more often a miss.  All the foundations are too dark and orange and the lip glosses smell overwhelmingly of baby wipes, which is kind of gross.  I have a lipstick in Airy Fairy, which is just okay.  I like the color, but the texture doesn't really melt into my lips.  It just sort of sits there and looks like a mask.  Oh, the nail polishes are probably my favorite from the line, but there aren't that many colors that excite me.

I bought this trio because the colors looked pretty in the pan and it was cheap.  After I tried it, I discovered being inexpensive was it's only good quality.  The shadow IS soft, but its a powdery, fallout mess.  The way it applies it looks like cheap, colored baby powder.  The colors that looked so beautiful in the pan are one note and chalky.  I TRIED to do an eye look with this palette but it looked like a hot mess.  The shadows didn't blend and looked like I had colored sidewalk chalk on my eyelids.  Not pretty.

Here are the arm swatches if you are brave enough to look.

Rimmel Eye Shadow Trio in Lagoon

It looks so pretty in the sun!  But it lies!

The swatches don't actually look too bad.  But just know that they swatch waaaaay better on the arm than they look on the eye.

Pros:
  • Cheap if you can get it on sale
  • Texture was soft...
Cons:
  • BUT the texture was powdery and chalky
  • Does not stick to the eyelid well
  • Colors are very one note
  • More expensive than Wet n Wild and not nearly as good quality

Available:
  • Retails for &4.99 at drugstores and wherever Rimmel is sold
