FOTD- Miles To Go Before I Sleep

Hey guys! I finally prettied up my blog a little! It had the same boring, ugly look since I first started blogging over a year ago. I know it is still amateur-ish looking, but I don't mind since I'm not trying to be professional here. I made my banner in a Paint-esque program. I have Photoshop, but I don't feel like learning it, haha. I opened it, clicked around for about 30 seconds, said "Fuck it" and went back to my cheapo program.

I don't have much to say so I'll just leave you some pictures of some makeup I wore last week. I'm becoming more comfortable with bolder lips. They're so much fun! (PS- The title is a line from one of my favorite poems. I'll post the poem at the end if anyone is interested. Poetry doesn't often resonate with me, but this one really does.)

I don't 'member everything I'm wearing; I'm so bad. The lips are Revlon lip butter in Lollipop with LORAC Tie Dye For Gloss in Shocking Twist over it. On my eyes the silver is a cream eyeshadow from Essence, the little bit of gold is a L'Oreal Infallible shadow, and I have Skinny Jeans cream eyeshadow from Benefit in my crease.

And here is the poem. My favorite part is bolded.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

  1. I don't find your banner amateurish at all! It's cool. I am glad I didn't have the bucks for Photoshop. I wanted it so badly. But I did get Photoshop Elements. I still haven't futzed around with it much.

    1. I've had Photoshop forever. I think I got it for free when I was in school. And thank you so much for the compliment! I've never even made a banner before. :)

  2. It was so refreshing to read a poem in a makeup blog. Thanks for sharing it. Here is one of my favorite poems (I like poetry):

    Guest House

    Being human is like
    a guest house.

    Each morning a new arrival.

    A joy,
    a depression,
    a meanness,
    some momentary awareness
    comes as an unexpected visitor.

    Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
    who violently sweep your house
    empty of its furniture,
    still treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out
    for some new delight.

    The dark thought,
    the shame,
    the malice,

    meet them at the door
    laughing,

    and invite them in.

    Be grateful for whoever comes,
    because each has been sent
    as a guide from beyond.

    -- Rumi (Sufi poet, 13th century A.D.)

  4. Love Lollipop on you, it's such a good color. I have been on a bold lips kick myself and that one is in my arsenal!

Your page also looks really cute. You did more than I know how to do! I'm so computer illiterate.

    1. Thank you! I love Lollipop too. Have you tried any of the balm stains yet? I think I might like them more than the lip butters because they last longer.

Blogger is pretty easy to use so I just fiddled around a little bit and ended up liking how it turned out. I'm usually don't like to mess with things because I'm afraid I'll mess them up and won't be able to fix them!

  5. Oh man do I love that pink lippy on you!! You really know how to layer it to make it pop even more!

I like your background. I still use one of the ones that come in Blogger, kinda lame for me but I'm no graphic designer. I have photoshop but it's too complex for me. My arsenal of choice is paint shop pro, and an old version at that! All I really do is resize, crop, and adjust the contrast if needed. I think you did a great job!

Btw, that is my favorite line from that poem too. :)

    1. Thank you Judi!

The background is my favorite part and I'm kinda proud of it. I thought it would be cool to do a word collage of words I use a lot on my blog and I found a website that created it. I really like how it came out.

And that's about as much photo editing as I do too. I don't have the patience to learn anything else!

  7. Gorgeous poem! I don't normally like such strict rhyming structures but that one was just lovely. And I laaahv that first full face photo, you look really glam :)

    1. I usually don't like such strict structure either because I think it has a tendency to sound forced, but I guess that's why Frost was a master. Haha, I felt like I was giving off a bit of a bitchface vibe in the picture. I was thinking I was totally channeling you! You give some awesome bitchface. :)

  8. You look so amazing! And I love me some Robert Frost (even though the poet and I broke up a week ago). My favorite poems are "The Truth the Dead Know" by Anne Sexton and "A Second Coming" by W.B. Yeats.

    1. Thank you Chris! I hope you're holding up okay. I'm going to go look up those poems and read them before i go to bed. I'm thinking about making my own book of my favorite poems, because unlike books, I can read the poems I love over and over. Another of my favorites was the "How do I love thee" sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, but I'm (understandably) not too into love poetry these days.
