What Makes a Good Frosty Nail Polish? When It Isn't A Frost! Wet n Wild's Eggplant Frost

Wet n Wild Eggplant Frost in the sun

I'm just gonna come out and say that I love Wet n Wild's Eggplant Frost nail polish. Partially because it's a gorgeous polish but also for nostalgia reasons.  I bought my first bottle of this color when I was 14 and I thought this color was incredibly edgy and grown up. I also remember my mom hating it, which probably made me love it more.  Unfortunately I got rid of my old bottle (and a lot of other really awesome colors, *sob*) in a fit of nail polish loathing in my late teens.  But Wet n Wild sent me a few of their products to review recently and I was excited to see a bottle of Eggplant Frost in the package.

Seriously, I'm not sure why I never bought my own bottle.  This line from Wet n Wild is only 99 cents and there isn't a dud in the bunch.  A lot of dark purple polishes with blue flash have come out recently that I've noticed but you have to give Wet n Wild credit for being one of the first. And for being the most inexpensive!

This was 2 coats, with base and top coats.

  • The Wild Shine line of polishes retail for $0.99 and are sold at drugstores and all places Wet n Wild is sold.

Disclosure: I was sent this for review purposes from Wet n Wild. All opinions are completely my own.

Is It A Gloss? Is It A Balm? I Don't Know But I Love CoverGirl's NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Peony

I was a little skeptical when I first heard about Cover Girl's Natureluxe Gloss Balms. I figured they would be really sheer and drying.  I used to love Cover Girl's Lipslicks as a teenager but never found them to be that moisturizing. So I didn't really pay much attention to these. When I did happen to see a display of them the colors did look really sheer. I actually like sheer, but not so sheer you might as well be wearing a regular lip balm.

But being the hoor for sales that I am, I bought one off Amazon when they had a $3 off coupon.  I have Amazon Prime (free two-day shipping, whoop!) so I only paid a total of $2.99 for it. If I hated it I wouldn't feel too bad about wasting 3 bucks. But I surprisingly love it.

The color I got, Peony, is actually pretty opaque.  It's more opaque than a tinted lip balm but more sheer than a lipstick. It's a pretty berry-ish pink-red tone on my lips.  This is actually the perfect red for me. I think it still looks fairly dramatic (well, compared to the super sheer glosses I usually wear) but doesn't wash me out or make me look like a little girl playing with her mom's makeup. I was pleasantly surprised that this felt pretty moisturizing also. I don't feel like I need to wear another balm underneath or a gloss on top. It feels comfortable on the lips and I forget I'm even wearing it. I really want to buy a few more shades now!

A side note: This post was fueled by some freakin' awesome Led Zeppelin. Ahh, I love me some Zep.  Classic rock 4 lyfe, yo! "When the levee breaaaaaaaaaaaaks..."

Available:
  • These retail for around $7 and are sold at drugstores. In fact, I see these on drugstore.com for $5.99 right now.

A Haul- Or I Can't Believe I Bought Stuff OTHER Than Makeup

Doesn't it feel like I'm always complaining how I don't have time to write proper posts? Well, that. Again.  I have a few posts brewing including a review of Spellbound Cosmetics that I can hopefully finish up over the weekend.  For now, it's anothe rinstallment of "shit I bought recently".  I've been trying to cut back on my spending and i think I'm doing pretty well.  What I've bought recently I've either really wanted for awhile, or was on sale (and mostly both because I'm a sucker for sales). I'm also trying to branch out with my purchases because all I ever buy is makeup. So I bought some jewelry. These are probably the first pieces of jewelry I've bought since I was 13 and shopped at Claire's. I told you guys I don't accessorize.

My nails have been such a pain in the ass the past few month. They're brittle, peeling, dry, and just generally weak.  I've been taking biotin pills for a few weeks but it will take longer than that to see results.  I think I might be damagine my nails by using straight acetone all the time. I've heard great things about Zoya's Remove+ nail polish remover so when they had a code to get a free 8 ounce bottle of remover I picked up the 32 oz. to go with it. $25 is a lot to spend on nail polish remover, but it if helps my nails, it's worth it. Plus, the huge bottle *should* last for awhile.

I bought the Cover Girl Natureluxe gloss balm on Amazon when they had a $3 off coupon for it. I have Amazon Prime, which gives you free 2-day shipping so all I paid for this was $2.99. No tax or shipping! Yay! I just wish that Amazon wasn't so wasteful in ow they package things. I got a huge box for this tiny little balm.

I bought a Heartsy certificate (personal referral link) for this store because I thought their earrings were really cute.  I paid $8 for the certificate worth $20. My boyfriend said they look like little girl earrings but that's precisely why I like them!

I LOVE this necklace! You may have heard of this Whimsy Beading because they seem to be a favorite of bloggers. It's easy to see why because this necklace is gorgeous! I've been wanting one for awhile and finally decided to buy. I had a super hard time narrowing down the one I wanted, but I definitely plan on buying more when funds allow!

Here is the one I bought- it's called Poet Seas.

See? I didn't do TOO much damage! Hopefully I can remember to actually wear my jewelry...

Holo Makes Everything Better!

Sorry guys, I don't have much of a post for you today AGAIN. I'm really good at being a bad blogger, haha. But I just wanted to show you how a fail mani can turn into something awesome.

Two night ago I had the awesome idea to paint my nails 15 minutes before going to bed. And I decided to use a polish I've never tried from a brand I've never used.  So of course something was going to go wrong. The polish turned out to be really sheer (it's a light pink with a darker pink shimmer flash), and while pretty, after 3 coats I had bubbling on some nails. I was frustrated by this point and it was too late to start over and there is no way I was going to go out in public without nail polish on (my naked nails are guh-ross).  I was going to put glitter on top but I decided to go for a sheer silver holo that I picked up at Dollar Tree a year ago or so and have never worn. And it turned out amazing!  The holo completely hid the bubbles but still allowed the pink flash from the polish underneath to show through.  I'm in love with combo and can't wait to try layering the holo over other polishes.

This is Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Diamond over Pixi #8.

It doesn't look so great in the shade but it still looks a million times better than it did without the holo on top!

Another picture for good measure!

FOTD: Nekkid Eyes

Every now and then a I get overcome by an odd feeling- the urge to wear neutral eyeshadow. Every thing else I wear is bland, boring, and dull. Colorful eyeshadow is my one "non-boring" aspect of my appearance. Seriously, I wear jeans, a t shirt, and Converse everyday. I either put my hair in a ponytail or wear it down and straighten it. I don't wear any jewelry or accessories ever.  See what I mean? Boring. I have 4 pairs of shoes- 2 Converse, 1 pair of tennis shoes, and 1 pair of flip flops (chanclas!) and three pair of jeans. I'm happy with this. It's simple and it works for me.

But put me in neutral eyeshadows and I feel naked.  After buying the Naked palette I'm starting to appreciate neutrals more, but I still feel more comfortable in hot pink eyeshadow than taupe.  So it was a little weird when I had the urge to do this look. I also wanted to practice my winged liner skills, but it's pretty obvious I need some more practice!

Mmm, My Nails Smell Like Grapes

Wow, I've been so scatterbrained lately. I completely for to make a post today. I'm not sure how- preparing a post has been a part of my daily schedule for months now.  Do you ever have that feeling that you're slowing falling apart. I feel like a shoelace where the little plastic end has come off and I'm slowly unraveling. On day You do to tie your shoe and the lace is completely unraveled and completely useless. Yeah, that's me. And unraveling shoelace. Yeah, I'm probably not making much sense. (Just smile and nod and no one gets hurt!)

I used to have scented polishes as a a kid and was excited when Revlon starting releasing these just because of the nostalgia factor. I have Grape Icy and some blueberry scented one I haven't used yet. The scent of this one is cloyingly sweet.  I sleep with my hands curled up next to my face and for the first night the scent was kind of distracting. But I don't care, I think it's cool to have scented nails. The scent slowly faded, but even at the end I could still smell it faintly.  Using a top coat over does not affect the scent after the polish dries.  Oh, you can make your own scented polishes, too.  I put a few drops of peppermint essential oil into a franken and after it dried my nails smelled like mint.  I'm sure you could use frgarance oils, too.

This polish is pretty sheer. If you've used Revlon polishes, the formula is pretty recognizably Revlon.  I think this was 3 coats.  It may have been 4, but my brain is being a butthole lately and doesn't like to function properly.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipglosses in Coral Glow and Hi-Tech Plum

I saw a few of these lipglosses in a limited edition display from Maybelline a month ago and imediately bought them. I rarely buy any makeup from the drugstore unless it's on sale, but these colors looked so gorgeous I bought them right away.  And then promptly forgot to post about them. They are limited edition so I hope they are still available but I haven't been to any drugstores since I bought them so I'm not sure.  Even if you aren't able to find these particular shades, the permanent glosses are worth checking out. These two glosses are supposed

I wasn't expecting much from these glosses, but I was really surprised at how much I like them.  They are vying for favorite drugstore lipgloss with Revlon's Super Lustrous lipglosses.  But I think i prefer the color selection of Maybelline's so they get a slight edge. The formula is not thin, watery, or greasy, but a nice medium texture which is smooth and non-sticky. The color is sheer, but buildable without looking like you're wearing a whole tube of lipgloss on your lips. These felt moisturizing and I didn't have any issues with streakiness or pigment settling into my lip lines.

Physician's Formula Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl Swatches and Review

One thing I don't like about Physician's Formula products- they have ridiculously long names! But besides that, I have been impressed with most everything I have tried from them. I think Physician's Formula is definitely one of the better quality drugstore brands and is a bit underrated.  I wish their products were a little less expensive, but since many of them preform on the same level or better as the more expensive ones I buy from Sephora and such, it isn't that big of an issue. Plus, the brand regularly goes on sale.

I bought this powder several months ago during one such sale.  I rarely use highlighters because I don't care for the way they look on me, but I keep buying them regardless.  I guess I think that if I buy enough of them I'll fall magically in love with them.  But out of the highlighters I have, this one is definitely my favorite and I actually find myself reaching for it.  Yes, it's sparkly, but more refined and not gigantic glitter chunks of sparkle. It's build-able so you can go from a light sheen to full on disco ball cheeks depending on your preference.  The texture is smooth and blends easily. They soft and not chalky in the least.  I don't find that it imparts any color, just sparkle, on my skin, but that may just be because it is close in tone to my skin. It comes with a little brush, which is okay at getting the powder on your face, but as expected isn't that great. I would rather them ditch the brush and reduce the size of the compact.  It's a little bulky and the decorative pearl on top makes it impossible to stack.  The price, $13.95, is pretty high for drugstore makeup, too.

I highly recommend one of these powders if you're looking for a good highlighter from the drugstore. Next time Physician's Formula is on sale I plan on picking up the two blushes of this type (they retail for $10.95, but have less product).

All I'm wearing in this pic on my cheeks is the highlighter. Can you see how my cheeks are naturally kind of pink? It's annoying because it makes all my blushes look the same unless I pile the blush on.

Pros:
  • Easy to wear
  • Buildable amount of sparkle
  • Smooth, soft texture
  • Not chalky and blends easily
Cons:
  • A little pricey for drugstore makeup
  • Packaging is a bit bulky

Available:
  • Sold at drugstores and retails for $13.95

Cult Nails A Day At The Races Collection Swatches

I'm gonna post this in the morning, but right now it's night and I'm writing this post, drinking strawberry daquiris, and cooking dinner (steak, shrimp and vegetable skewers, and twice baked potatoes- yum!). I drink like twice a year and am notoriously bad at holding my alcohol so I'm going to go ahead and make this a quick post! Hopefully I finish dinner before I'm too far gone... (Apparently I did get too far gone because I forgot to set this post to actually you know, post when I wanted it to)

Today I'll show you guys Cult Nails' A Day At The Races collection.  A few of these polishes are sold out and won't be coming back, but at least it gives you a good idea of the awesomeness that Cult Nails creates. I'll let you know which you can still buy (although really, you should be buying them all!). Check out my review of Cult Nails' polishes and swatches of their Inaugural Collection here.

Cult Nails Captivated in the sun
This was 2 coats on my left three fingers and one coat over Cult Nails' Quench on my index finger.

Captivated is my favorite of these, but unfortunately it's sold out!

Cult Nails Captivated in the shade
Cult Nails Always Winning in the sun
This one was 3 coats and is still a bit sheer. It's pretty and unique but isn't my favorite just because I wish it looked on the nail how it does in the bottle!  It does look better in real life than my picture shows, however.

Always Winning is currently available.

Cult Nails Always Winning in the shade
Cult Nails Cruisin' Nude in the sun
This was 2 coats. I love this polish! I just wish the pink shimmer was as apparent in the picture as it is in real life.

This is not currently available but it available for pre-order.

Cult Nails Devious Nature in the sun
This was 2 coats.  This one isn't quite as bubblegum pink as it looks here and has a more purple tone.  The shade picture is more color accurate.

This shade is currently available.

Cult Nails Let Me Fly in the sun
This was 2 coats.  Let Me Fly is sold out online :(

More Frankenpolishes!

Do ever have one of those weeks where you question everything? For some reason I'm feeling especially out of whack and with that comes the self doubt. Am I doing the right thing with my life, am I making the right decisions, what if I'm doing all of this and I end up hating my life.  My life seems to be composed of "what if"s and doubts.  It's probably because I'm tired.  I haven't been in the best shape for most of my adult life, but I didn't know how bad out of shape could be until after surgery. After a regular day I am thoroughly exhausted.  I keep hoping it will get better but it doesn't.  I need to get off my fat bum and DO something about it.  That's the thing about me, I'm very active in my mind and always plan on doing things yet it somehow never happens.  People say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.  Well, I'm glad I don't believe in hell or I'd be knocking on the door about now with all my intentions!

The damn weekends go by too effin' quickly, but thank gawd it's FFF (finally fucking Friday)!

Here some frankens I swatched a long time ago and made even longer ago (at least a year and a half ago).  I don't have any clue what I used to make them because I'm terrible at writing things down.  My usual strategy for creating frankens is just to keep adding random crap until I get bored. Sometimes it works out okay. Oh and none of these have names because I'm terrible at naming.

Random EOTDs And A Wall of Text aka Random Blatherings

I feel like talking today. If you guys want to skip the wall of text I'll understand!

Tuesday was my boyfriend's birthday.  He's been wanting to go to a shooting range for the longest time so his step-dad took him for his birthday. I wanted to go also just because we have a gun in the house and it makes me uncomfortable having it there when I don't know how to use it properly.  So we went to this tiny indoor shooting range that only had a few lanes. Luckily we were the only ones there because, sorry for the vulgarity (actually I'm not too sorry, I have a terrible potty mouth in real life), but I freaked the fuck out after shooting the first time. I wasn't expecting it to be so loud or... powerful. I was wearing ear protection but they had to go and get me some heavy duty ear phone thingies AND ear plugs at the same time before I would even go back in.  I guess I have really sensitive ears because it hurt!  And I usually have a really high pain tolerance.  Plus ear pain is freakin scary.  I like to be able to hear, thank you very much!

Ugh, I felt like such a weenie. I started crying because I was so overwhelmed. Isn't that so stupid?  I was so angry at myself, which made me cry more. I wasn't scared of the shooting part so much, but more the noise. The fear was weird and completely involuntary. I've never felt like that before- like a deep-seated desperately primal fear.  And of course it pissed me off so much that I shot that damn gun until I started to like it (well, at least get more familiar with it. I don't think shooting guns will ever be my idea of fun. It's kinda boring after awhile). But it's still scary. Shooting a gun is nothing like how easy they do it in the movies. It feels substantial and most definitely lethal.  For the gun enthusiasts out there I'm sure it seems like I'm making a big deal about nothing, and even I was surprised that it felt like a big deal. My boyfriend's step-dad said that next time he would take us to an outdoor shooting range where the noise isn't so bad. Apparently they have a outdoor range right across from the prison out in the middle of nowhere. Because that totally seems like a logical place for a shooting range- next to a prison.

For those of you that have shot guns, do you experience anything similar your first time?  I think it made it worse that I was in a tiny enclosed space. I have a tendency for panic attacks and anxiety and in there with the guns going off I felt like a trapped animal.  Now that I think about it, I was having a bit of a panic attack. It was only my embarrassment and my pride that kept me semi-composed. Ugh, I'm so dumb.

Well, that was incredibly long. Thanks to those of you that read it.

Here are a few random EOTDs that I've worn over the past month and a half. The whole face pictures weren't good enough so I cropped out my eyeballs. And I don't remember everything I was wearing in all them but I'll try.

This is a random purple eyeshdow from NYC in the crease and Verve from the Urban Decay Rollergirl palette on the lid.

This is all the neutrals from the Rollergirl palette and some grey eyeliner my mom gave me that does not match the look at all.

I don't remember the exact shades, but the eyeshadows are all from NYX. The gold liner is Pure Show from MAC.

Here is the oh-so-sexy half asleep eye. I'm wearing all 4 of elf's studio creme eyeshadows.

I'm wearing Benefit's Creaseless Cream eyeshadows in Plum-ing For Gold with Taupe-Aztic on top. They were part of some limited edition collection and not available any more, which is a shame. I'm also wearing MAC's Pure Show on my upper lash line.

This is Estee Lauder's Shadowstick in Teal on my lid with High Voltage Cosmetics' Mani & Sol in my crease. I'm also wearing MAC's Treat Me Nice eyeliner above my upper lash line.

I liked this look so much I'm going to post another picture of it.

Thank you guys for reading this! If you made it through my wall of text and random pictures you deserve something cool. Like a cookie!
